Comlurb's Green Corridors project is carrying out tree management on the Engenheiro Fernando Mac Dowell highway in São Conrado.

Comlurb will be implementing the Green Corridors Program, a reinforcement of tree management on the city's main roads, this weekend on the Engenheiro Fernando Mac Dowell highway, formerly known as Lagoa-Barra. The goal of the new program is to complete all necessary services in a single day or weekend in these important and extensive areas of the city where teams have difficulty working during weekdays due to high traffic flow and to avoid disrupting urban mobility. The chosen location must meet three criteria: the number of pending requests made through Channel 1746, an analysis of the trees' health status, and conflict with urban infrastructure (signs, building facades, signage, etc.).

In just 20 days since its launch on June 20th, the Program has already completed 66 pending requests made through Channel 1746, carrying out 192 management actions, including 188 prunings and four removals. The Green Corridors Program has already covered Rua Conde de Bonfim in Tijuca, Avenida Epitácio Pessoa in Lagoa, and Visconde de Pirajá in Ipanema.

– The choice of location involves operational and technical criteria. The team surveys these locations, analyzes the number of requests registered by citizens on Channel 1746. In addition, it verifies the overall health condition of the tree, whether it is affected by any pests, the integrity of the structures, from the crown to the root, to determine the risks related to its decline. In other words, we are dealing with the quality of the city's tree cover – explains the Director of Urban Services, Ronaldo Teixeira.

The director emphasizes that the new program, although it brings together a larger number of equipment, vehicles, and personnel, does not impact the city's routine management. The operations involve, on average, 50 sanitation workers, using bucket trucks, garbage trucks, and utility vehicles for personnel transport. The new program has ensured a reduction in risks and improvements in road safety.
