The Rio City Hall published in the Official Gazette this Wednesday (24/5) a decree that makes official and names the Olympic Boulevard, inside the Olympic Park, in Barra da Tijuca, West Zone of the city, as Parque Rita Lee. Construction work on the space began in February, when Mayor Eduardo Paes and the Minister of Sports, Ana Moser, visited the site, which is yet another project of the Olympic legacy.
As foreseen in the City Hall's legacy plan, Rita Lee Park, where athletes and fans have passed through, and which in recent years has hosted the city of rock at Rock In Rio, is an area of 136 thousand square meters and will be transformed into a natural public park.
In the decree, the City Hall considered the importance of the singer in the national artistic scene, especially due to the multiplicity of talents of the Queen of Rock. It also highlighted her irreverent and libertarian profile, which, reflected in her songs, characterizes her as one of the most irreverent women in the country, and her passion for the city of Rio de Janeiro.
Rita Lee Park will be located on a route that connects all the main areas of the park, such as the arenas, terraces and the “Live Site”, an esplanade for events in front of Jacarepaguá Lagoon. The park will gain a forest with more than 900 trees and 16 thousand bushes, sports courts, squares, a renovated skate park, a wet square and colored floors. There will also be new street furniture, such as 465 tables and chairs, 27 children's toys, 14 gym equipment and 14 bike racks.
