Rio Operations Center - Rio City Hall The 2022 edition of the COR Challenge – an innovation and acceleration program from the Rio Operations Center – is open for registration until July 13. This year, the challenge will be “How to increase the identification and monitoring of risks and impacts of severe climate (hydrometeorological) events in the city”. Scheduled to start in July, the event will be held through the Rio-NASA partnership, in addition to ABMEN (Brazilian Association of Business Mentors) and FCJ Rio, the Rio regional office of the largest global group of Venture Builders (organization that promotes startups).
Groups, startups and companies interested in developing technological solutions with COR must fill out the available form using this link. The first stage, the immersion stage, is scheduled for July. The acceleration stage should take place from August to September.
– Our main objective is to encourage the development of innovative tools that contribute to a smarter and more resilient city, and help save lives – highlighted COR’s chief executive, Alexandre Cardeman.
During the challenge, the Operations Center transforms into a living laboratory for smart city solutions, offering all available resources to participants: data; technical mentoring; and access to COR’s innovation ecosystem.
The best solutions move on to the final stage, incubation, where they are experimentally integrated into COR's operations for improvement. More information about the challenge, phases and schedule using this link.
Previous editions
The challenge has already had three editions, in 2018, 2019 and 2021 to improve, respectively, the city's response to heavy rain events; the management of the impacts of climate change on the city's bus system; and emergency communication.
As a result, COR has already certified six startups, qualifying the tools to be integrated into COR's set of operational tools. They are: Noah, with smart flood sensors; VM9, with an urban mobility platform on the BRS system (exclusive bus lane); Wiiglo, with a bus system monitoring platform; Nimbus, with the Cronos platform, aimed at improving rainfall forecasting; Linha Direta, which expanded the functionality of its alerts application, allowing users to report incidents directly to COR, including sending videos in real time; and Não Pare Antes de Acheir, with a sensing system based on LoRaWAN technology.
