D-Day for the multi-vaccination campaign mobilization takes place on Saturday, the 22nd.

The Municipal Health Department (SMS) of Rio de Janeiro is holding a mobilization day this Saturday (22) for the multi-vaccination campaign to update the vaccination status of children and adolescents. More than 400 service points will be available between 8 am and 17 pm throughout the city, in municipal health units and also in strategic locations with high circulation of people such as squares, residents' associations, churches, shopping malls and schools. In addition to updating vaccination records, the mobilization aims to facilitate access to immunization and expand vaccination coverage in the city. Adults who take their children to get vaccinated can also take the opportunity to get their own vaccinations up to date.

The multi-vaccination campaign has been running since August 3rd and continues until September 1st. The initiative is part of a national mobilization and aims to encourage parents and guardians to keep their children's vaccination records up to date, according to the basic schedule recommended by the National Immunization Program (PNI) of the Ministry of Health. – “D-Day is an important opportunity for Rio residents to get their children and teenagers' vaccinations up to date. Vaccines are safe and fundamental to preventing diseases and avoiding the return of diseases that have already been controlled. Our goal is to facilitate access for the population and reinforce the importance of keeping children's vaccination records up to date. The mother or father who takes their children to be vaccinated can also take the opportunity to get their own vaccinations up to date, expanding the family's protection and also setting an example for the little ones,” says the municipal health secretary, Rodrigo Prado.

All vaccines included in the National Immunization Schedule are available at health units and extra vaccination points, according to the age group and vaccination status of each child or adolescent. Among the vaccines available for children are BCG, hepatitis A and B, pentavalent, polio (VIP), rotavirus, pneumococcal, meningococcal C, yellow fever, MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), varicella, DTP (diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis), influenza, and COVID-19. For adolescents, there will be vaccines against HPV (9 to 19 years), meningococcal ACWY (11 to 14 years), dengue (10 to 14 years), and influenza.

The Municipal Health Department (SMS) advises parents and guardians to bring the child's and adolescent's vaccination record, or another document proving their vaccination status, so that health teams can assess and administer any pending doses. Immunization is being carried out selectively, meaning each record is evaluated by health teams and only the doses necessary to bring vaccinations up to date are administered. For those who do not have a vaccination record, vaccines will be indicated according to age, and a duplicate of the document will be issued.

The campaign also allows for the updating of vaccinations in adults, especially against measles. The Municipal Health Department recommends that adults up to 59 years old who have not been vaccinated with the MMR vaccine – which protects against measles, mumps, and rubella – seek out vaccination centers to get vaccinated this Saturday.

Vaccines are available at all 243 vaccination centers in the municipality, at family clinics and municipal health centers, and also at the Super Centro Carioca de Vacinação units in Botafogo (open every day from 8 am to 22 pm), in the West Zone (at ParkShoppingCampoGrande, following the shopping mall's opening hours) and in the North Zone (Shopping Nova América).
