The celebration was attended by the city's first lady, Victoria Henriques, and brought together children, families, professionals, and guests to celebrate the unit's history and honor current and former students who are part of it.
As a birthday gift, EDI will be the first space in the network to host Brincaê, a RIOinclui project focused on early childhood. The new environment was designed for the 320 students to play, explore, and experiment with different possibilities in a welcoming, playful, and inclusive space.
"The idea is for each child to feel welcome and realize that this space belongs to them. A place where playing is learning, where curiosity is valued, and where every discovery can be an opportunity for development. It will be the first of a series in our municipal network. And I am sure that with your help, everything will be alright," explained Victoria Henriques, the municipality's first lady.
Created by the RIOinclui team, Brincaê brings together sensory stimuli and activities that encourage curiosity, creativity, and autonomy. The idea is to offer children opportunities to discover the world through play, interaction, and experimentation, respecting different paces and ways of learning.
– This sensory playroom is a gift that comes with a proposal for inclusion, a proposal that will benefit all students. Because, after all, what is good for the included student is good for everyone. A sensitive school is good for everyone. That's why we had no doubt in embracing this project. The child of the poor, the child of the worker, has the right to a quality school, a good school. And a good school, a good education, is one in which the child learns. Everything here is thought out with great care and a lot of technique for our students – stated the municipal Secretary of Education, Hugo Nepomuceno.
In early childhood, these experiences play an important role in cognitive, motor, emotional, and social development. Therefore, the environment is also considered part of the learning process: a safe and inviting place where children can play freely, make discoveries, and develop different skills from an early age.
