Feira do Lavradio is released and takes place again on Saturdays, now in weekly editions

The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through the Municipal Secretariat for Development, Employment and Innovation (SMDEI), has created a strategy for the return of the Lavradio Fair this weekend. The event, a traditional event in the city that attracts thousands of locals and tourists, is an initiative of the Polo Novo Rio Antigo, which is part of the Polos do Rio program, by SMDEI, a municipal public policy for the development of neighborhoods.

In a meeting between the Undersecretary of Development, Edu Nascimento, the fair coordinator, Rogério Bastos, and Plínio Fróes, director of the Polo Novo Rio Antigo Association, it was agreed that the total number of exhibitors at the monthly fair would be divided between the Saturdays of the month.

In addition, exhibitors will have to strictly comply with the City Hall's Golden Rules for preventing coronavirus, such as distancing between stalls, the use of masks by exhibitors and the provision of alcohol gel at all stalls.

The return of the fair will also bring new initiatives from the Development Sub-Secretariat to the site.

– Our teams will carry out partnership actions to include Social Entrepreneurship in Rio de Janeiro and coordinate data collection on the productive ecosystem of entrepreneurs at the Feira do Lavradio – says Edu Nascimento.

– With over 20 years of history, one of the city’s most prestigious events will be back this Saturday, starting at 10 am, respecting all prevention protocols. It is yet another achievement in the resumption of activities in these times of pandemic – celebrates coordinator Rogério Bastos.

 

Rules for everyone

Bars and restaurants on Rua do Lavradio must also respect all the Golden Rules to avoid crowds.

Who will be exhibiting this Saturday, October 3rd?

In order to meet the permitted number of exhibitors per fair, on this date only exhibitors from the 1st and 3rd blocks of Rua do Lavradio, which are located between Rua Visconde do Rio Branco and Rua do Senado and between Av. Chile and Rua do Resende, will be authorized.

Exhibitors at Praça Emilinha Borba are not authorized to exhibit on October 3rd.

How will it be?

The stalls will be distributed along the entire Rua do Lavradio, with space between each other, which will change the previous locations of the stalls.

 

What is the Lavradio Fair like?

 

The Rio Antigo Fair is a traditional tourist/cultural event on Rua do Lavradio, which for over 22 years has focused on the socio-cultural requalification of Old Rio, organized by the Associação Polo Novo Rio Antigo, and has Brazilianness as its main characteristic.

It has established itself in the city's cultural scene, enchanting visitors with a beautiful stroll through the past. Rua do Lavradio, the city's first residential street, opened in 1771 by Viceroy Marquês do Lavradio, hosts this event that has always taken place every first Saturday of the month.

The event takes on a special atmosphere with the exhibition of shopkeepers, antique dealers, exhibitors and local bars and restaurants, which place tables and chairs outdoors creating a party atmosphere, however, in times of pandemic everyone will be obeying the Golden Rules of the City of Rio.
