Photo: Courtesy of Comlurb Comlurb will be holding a campaign to encourage selective waste collection at the street market on Rua do Rocha, in the North Zone, on Saturday (March 7). Since March 2023, the campaign has been present in highly visible locations throughout the municipality, with a focus on squares, beaches and street markets, with teams disseminating information and distributing informational leaflets about the service.
Selective waste collection serves 118 neighborhoods in the city. All materials are delivered free of charge to 30 waste picker cooperatives, which separate and sell the products. Recyclable waste thus guarantees work and income for the cooperative members, benefiting approximately 450 families. Currently, door-to-door collection is done once a week, on alternate days to the regular household waste collection. Comlurb ensures the cleanliness of all street markets in the city, sweeping the entire market and surrounding area and performing hydraulic cleaning with recycled water.
