The Rio City Hall estimates that around 1,1 million tourists will visit the city in July this year, marking a 20% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Estimates indicate that these visitors will generate approximately R$2,5 billion in the Rio economy in July. The calculation takes into account the average length of stay and daily expenditure of tourists: foreigners generally stay around five days in the city, with an average daily expenditure of R$605,64, while Brazilians stay around four days, with an average daily expenditure of R$529,16. The data was calculated by the municipal secretariats of Economic Development, Tourism and Riotur.
– Rio is already a reference for its natural beauty and one of the most sought-after destinations for tourists at all times of the year. Tourists who choose Rio to spend their July vacations will have the unforgettable experience of being in a stunning setting, with varied cuisine and happy, welcoming people – highlighted the president of Riotur, Bernardo Fellows.
Last year, 944,1 thousand visitors were registered, predominantly Brazilian, with 88,6% being domestic tourists (836,0 thousand) and 11,4% (108,1 thousand) being foreign tourists. By 2025, 1 million domestic tourists and around 130 thousand international tourists are expected to visit.
– The numbers have shown the importance of tourism for our city. The major events and initiatives we have held, such as the “Everybody in Rio” project, have further boosted this sector. We will continue working to keep the tourism economy buoyant – assessed the municipal secretary of Economic Development, Osmar Lima.
Between the 1st and 31st, RIOgaleão estimates the movement of approximately 1,5 million passengers, a number around 14,7% higher than that recorded in the same period in 2024. In relation to air movements, the concessionaire predicts approximately 10,3 thousand flights.
Furthermore, Rio is among the three most sought-after destinations by Brazilians for the July holidays, according to the Booking.com platform. The survey also shows that the city registered a 24% increase in searches compared to the same period in 2024.
– We are on the right track in developing public policies to promote Rio as a tourist attraction, both nationally and internationally. Today we celebrate the results of positive economic factors, such as the expansion of the city’s air network and the maturing of tourist attraction and visibility strategies developed by the City of Rio – added the municipal secretary of Tourism, Daniela Maia.
This increase in tourist flow is the result of ongoing efforts to strengthen Rio's image, including holding major events such as the BRICS summit and promotional initiatives by the City Hall, such as the launch of the official events calendar by Riotur.
