Municipal guards from the Public Order Unit (UOP) in Copacabana arrested, this Tuesday (19/08), a 28-year-old man suspected of carrying out a credit card scam on a Colombian tourist, near Posto 4 on Copacabana Beach, in the South Zone of Rio.
According to the victim, the scam occurred while she was purchasing a caipirinha. She said the vendor swiped her card several times, only to realize later that she had been charged R$2.024,75 for the drink.
Upon realizing the scam, the tourist went to the boardwalk to ask for help from the municipal guards patrolling the shore. The officers located the suspect still on the sand and arrested him.
The victim and the seller were taken to the Special Tourism Support Police Station (DEAT), in Leblon, where the case was registered as fraud and criminal association.
