Seniors aged 60 and over can now receive the updated COVID-19 vaccine.

The Municipal Health Department of Rio de Janeiro (SMS) expanded the updated vaccination against the LP.8.1 strain of Covid-19 to seniors aged 60 and over last Wednesday (August 12). The expansion comes after receiving a new allocation sent by the Ministry of Health (MS).

Pregnant women, who were already being vaccinated in the previous phase, remain in the designated group, as do immunocompromised individuals and people with permanent disabilities. Other age groups will be included later, in a phased manner, as new doses arrive in the city.

The vaccine is safe and the only way to prevent and reduce the risk of hospitalization and death from the disease. To get vaccinated, you need to go to a health unit with an identity document and, if available, your vaccination card.

The adult COVID-19 vaccine LP.8.1 is available at all 241 Primary Care units (family clinics and municipal health centers) in the city and at the Super Centro Carioca de Vacinação units in Botafogo (open every day from 8 am to 22 pm), in the West Zone (at ParkShoppingCampoGrande, following the shopping mall's opening hours) and in the North Zone (Shopping Nova América).
