  • Integration of the Rio de Janeiro Single Ticket will be done exclusively through the black Jaé card or QR Code.
The city government will continue advancing in the modernization of the municipal ticketing system - Marcos de Paula
The Municipal Transportation Secretariat (SMTR) informs that, starting May 30th, the integration of the Rio de Janeiro Single Ticket (BUC) will be done exclusively using the black Jaé card. The single-use Jaé card (green) will no longer be accepted for fare integrations between the Rio de Janeiro Single Ticket (BUC) and the Margaridas Single Ticket (BUM). Another security measure will be the end of cash payments on municipal buses, also starting May 30th. All payments will be made only through the Jaé system.
The BUC and BUM are fare benefits subsidized by the Rio de Janeiro City Hall and require user identification via CPF (Brazilian taxpayer ID), ensuring greater transparency in the use of public resources and combating fraud. The credits do not expire. The single-use (green) card will remain valid for single trips, without integration. Currently, only 3% of Jaé users utilize the green card for integrations.
Passengers using the green card for integrated travel must create a Jaé digital account in the app and request the black card or use the QR code. If you have difficulty creating a digital account in the app, you should go to one of the service points.
End of cash payments on buses.
As part of the modernization of municipal public transportation, cash payments will no longer be accepted on municipal buses starting May 30th. This measure aims to increase control and transparency in fare collection, reduce boarding times, eliminate cash handling by drivers, and enhance vehicle safety. With this change, access to municipal transportation will be exclusively through the Jaé system or the Riocard system (the latter only for users of the Intermunicipal Single Ticket - BUI). The benefits of the Rio de Janeiro Single Ticket - BUC and the Margaridas Single Ticket - BUM will continue to be available exclusively through the Jaé system.
With the BUC, users can make up to three trips within three hours—one of which must be on the BRT—paying only a single fare of R$ 5,00. With the BUM, aimed at passengers from the Baixada Fluminense region who use the Metropolitan BRT Terminal, it's possible to make up to four trips—two outbound and two return—between BRT, VLT, and municipal buses within 20 hours, paying R$ 5,00 for municipal integration.
In the BUM system, which integrates fares for those traveling from the Baixada Fluminense region to Rio de Janeiro using exclusively the Metropolitan BRT Terminal, passengers pay R$ 5,00 for integration within the municipal system and can make up to four trips—two outbound and two return—between BRT, VLT, and municipal buses within a period of up to 20 hours, ensuring greater savings, comfort, and speed in their commute.
Recharging credits with cash will continue to be available at Jaé self-service machines (ATMs), in approximately 2 recharge points spread throughout the city (https://jae.com.br/onde-estamos/estabelecimentos-credenciados/) and at the ticket booths in the BRT terminals. Through the app, it is possible to recharge the balance via Pix or credit, with immediate availability for use.
