Credit: Press Release The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through the Municipal Secretariat for Healthy Aging and Quality of Life (SEMESQV), launched the Bacanidade buses, a social initiative that combines leisure, culture and well-being, aimed especially at the senior citizen population.
The initiative features two specially wrapped buses, designed to offer comfort, safety, and a welcoming experience to participants in projects developed by SEMESQV.
Each vehicle has a capacity for 46 people and was designed to provide moments of relaxation and care, with snacks on board and adequate facilities to ensure comfort during the tours.
More than just transportation, the Bacanidade buses function as mobile spaces for socializing and enjoyment, encouraging the pleasure of living, socializing, and discovering different parts of the city.
In 2025, the project served approximately 2.500 senior citizens and promoted visits to over 150 locations, including cultural facilities, tourist attractions, and leisure spaces, expanding access for older adults to enriching and inclusive experiences.
By 2026, the Bacanidade Project will significantly expand its reach, going beyond the Community Centers and the centers of the Vida Ativa Program. In this new cycle, the initiative will also serve Long-Term Care Facilities for the Elderly (ILPIs) in the municipality, groups of elderly people linked to Family Clinics, users of the Social Assistance Reference Centers (CRAS), and other organized groups in different areas of the city.
The goal is to ensure that diverse audiences have access to cultural tours and integration activities throughout the city, strengthening bonds, promoting well-being, and expanding the feeling of belonging to Rio.
Bacanidade takes senior citizens who participate in SEMESQV activities on cultural experiences, guided tours, workshops, and courses, promoting access to culture, continuous learning, and the strengthening of social bonds. These actions directly contribute to increasing autonomy, knowledge, and social integration in old age.
With Bacanidade, senior citizens are invited to rediscover the charms of the Marvelous City in a lighthearted, fun, and accessible way, valuing each moment and reaffirming the commitment of the Rio de Janeiro City Hall to active, healthy aging full of good experiences.
