Suburban Madness celebrates 25 years of history with an exhibition at the Centro Cultural Futuros

Photo: PAMELA_PEREZ Starting Saturday (July 19th), the Loucura Suburbana Carnival Block, an integral part of the Nise da Silveira Municipal Health Assistance Institute's health and culture partnership, presents an exhibition celebrating its 07th anniversary. Comprising more than 25 items, including drawings, paintings, documents, props, dolls, banners, costumes, photographs, and videos, the exhibition reaffirms the block's status as an intangible heritage of mental health in Rio de Janeiro.
The exhibition highlights the cultural, pedagogical and political importance not only of the bloco, but also of the actions of the Ponto de Cultura Loucura Suburbana: Engenho, Arte e Folia, going beyond the traditional parades that take place in the Engenho de Dentro neighborhood, always on the Thursday before Carnival, and highlighting its fundamental role in Psychiatric Reform and the Anti-Asylum Struggle.
The exhibition is the result of a research and curation process led by Izabela Pucu, in collaboration with the Loucura Suburbana team, coordinator Ariadne Mendes, and physician and artist Lula Wanderley. It will be on display from July 19 to September 14, from 11 a.m. to 20 p.m., at the Centro Cultural Futuros – Arte e Tecnologia, in the Flamengo neighborhood.
