More than 60 babies were born in Rio in 2023, according to a survey by the City Hall

In 2023, the city of Rio de Janeiro registered 62,1 thousand births, equivalent to 35,4% of all births in the state and 2,5% of the country's total. The data are from the Civil Registry Statistics, published by the IBGE and compiled by the City of Rio, through the Municipal Secretariat for Economic Development, which has been closely monitoring the capital's main socioeconomic indicators.

Among newborns in Rio de Janeiro, 51% were male and 49% were female. Most mothers were between 25 and 29 years old (24,8%), followed by the 20 to 24 and 30 to 34 age groups, both with 21,8%. The 35 to 39 age group represented 16,3% of the total.

The survey also showed that the city of Rio celebrated 25,6 thousand marriages in 2023. The majority occurred between people aged 25 to 29 (21,9%), followed by 30 to 34 (17,9%), 20 to 24 (15,0%) and 35 to 39 (13,5%). Same-sex marriages represented 2% of the total, with 59% between women and 41% between men. Rio also concentrated 5,2% of all male same-sex marriages and 4,4% of female same-sex marriages performed in Brazil.

Regarding divorces, there were 9,8 thousand records in 2023, representing 31,4% of the total in the State and 2,7% in the country. Deaths reached 61,2 thousand, a reduction of 3,3% compared to 2022.

The data reflect important demographic trends in the city, which guide municipal management and enable the construction of assertive public policies aimed at the economic and social development of Rio de Janeiro.
