Another GET (Get Outings Transportation Center) opens in the city: this time in Bangu, in the West Zone.

In the collaborative environment, students have access to technology - Fabio Motta / Rio City Hall Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere inaugurated, this Wednesday (May 27th), the Technological Educational Gymnasium (GET) CIEP Professor Célia Martins Menna Barreto, in Bangu, in the West Zone. The new unit serves more than 460 students from Elementary School I, Kindergarten and Youth and Adult Education (EJA). With this facility, the city will have 311 GETs operating in the municipal education network, benefiting more than 131,000 students.
The City Hall's goal is to reach 350 GETs (Educational Technology Centers) by the end of 2026, and to serve 150 students. By the end of 2028, the city will have 500 Educational Technology Centers distributed throughout all territories of Rio de Janeiro.
– We are here celebrating education in Rio. We are very proud of each and every teacher and employee in the municipal school system. We know that our teachers and staff are what make the system what it is. And the GETs (Educational Technology Groups) are a gateway to the future. They are a window for us to think that our children in the municipal public school system can dream of a better future – stated the mayor of Rio.
During the inauguration, the mayor toured the unit's collaborative space, dedicated to the development of projects and work by students, and highlighted the importance of access to technology as a central axis of the educational model. This teaching method integrates different areas of knowledge, focusing on critical thinking, creativity, sensitivity, and student leadership, through active methodologies and a comprehensive education approach that extends beyond the traditional classroom setting.
The initiative was recognized by the Ministry of Education (MEC) as one of the most inspiring experiences in the country in the management and pedagogical projects of comprehensive education. This recognition reinforces Rio's position as the Innovation Capital and consolidates the presence of digital and media education in the municipal public school system.
– This CIEP (Integrated Public Education Center) has a very special symbolic meaning for our network. Here, an absurd event occurred practically during the school holidays, in December 2023, when the unit's gas pipeline was stolen, causing a huge explosion and generating enormous damage to the school community. Thanks to the work of the city hall, we were able to renovate the entire cafeteria and, in February 2024, we were able to welcome our children back normally. But the investments here haven't stopped, and today we bring another advancement, which is the launch of the 311th GET (Integrated Education Group) of our network, the most innovative teaching model in Brazil – highlighted the Secretary of Education.
GETs adopt the STEAM approach — Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics — and represent a new conception of school for the 21st century: spaces focused on didactic-pedagogical innovation, experimentation with knowledge, and active collaboration between students and educators. The proposal prepares students for the challenges of the future by bringing technology and practical learning closer to the daily lives of families and communities.
Each unit boasts modern infrastructure and state-of-the-art equipment. In the collaborative environment, students work with artificial intelligence, 3D printers, laser cutters, projection glasses, robotics kits, and sewing machines—tools that make learning concrete and connected to the reality of the territories where the schools are located.
