- The city of Rio has already vaccinated 31.177 people against coronavirus
Salustiano Barbosa receives a dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. Disclosure / Rio City Hall To date, 31.177 people from the priority groups of this first phase have been vaccinated in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Vaccination began yesterday (19) in the afternoon at the Ronaldo Gazolla Municipal Hospital and in some nursing homes and retirement homes, but was intensified this Wednesday, the São Sebastião holiday, with teams from Primary Care units working to take the vaccine to long-term care facilities, already covering the vast majority of these locations. Professionals from public and private hospitals that treat COVID-19 and from family clinics and municipal health centers were also vaccinated.
Among those vaccinated so far, 23.962 are health professionals, 6.589 elderly people in nursing homes and retirement homes, 564 people with disabilities living in long-term care facilities, 43 indigenous people and 19 quilombolas.
It is important to emphasize that, at this time, the population should not go to the clinics to get the vaccine. For now, vaccination is intended for the first priority groups formed by:
1) healthcare workers who directly care for patients with COVID-19;
2) Primary Care involved in the vaccination campaign;
3) considering the need to return to activities – restoring the workforce in the network’s hospitals – also healthcare professionals who work in ICU, emergency and urgent care and who were away due to age or comorbidity;
4) elderly and disabled people living in long-term care facilities and professionals working in these places;
5) indigenous and quilombola groups.
