- The municipality has invested over R$ 330 million in culture and enabled more than a thousand projects in recent years.
The investment, in addition to enabling artistic events, boosts the creative economy, generating jobs - Alexandre Macieira / RIOTUR The ISS Law, which establishes tax incentives for cultural activities, allocated R$ 336,9 million to Rio de Janeiro between 2021 and 2025, supporting more than 1,1 projects. This is the result of the study "ISS of Culture: Evaluation of Public Policy (2021-2025)", prepared by the municipal secretariats of Economic Development (SMDE) and Culture (SMC).
– Rio de Janeiro's greatest asset is undoubtedly its cultural diversity. All artistic expressions reflect the soul of the city. Therefore, a consistent and lasting policy of tax incentives is fundamental to strengthening the city's culture. Through the ISS Law, more than a thousand cultural projects have come to life on stages and in the streets of the city. All modalities were included: music, audiovisual, literature, visual arts and dance, in all regions of the city, from the center to the peripheries – emphasizes the municipal Secretary of Culture, Lucas Padilha.
Over the past five years, the average value of incentivized projects per year was R$ 67,4 million. The average value of each incentivized project was R$ 295,8. And there were an average of 228 incentivized projects per year.
– Public investment in culture, in addition to enabling artistic events, boosts the creative economy, generating direct and indirect jobs and expanding income opportunities for Rio de Janeiro residents – says Osmar Lima, Municipal Secretary of Economic Development.
