Rio's acting mayor, Eduardo Cavaliere, visited the construction site of the BRT Terminal in the Bairro Imperial Santa Cruz neighborhood, in the West Zone, on Friday (09/05). With an estimated investment of R$74,2 million, the project, executed by the Municipal Infrastructure Department, is expected to be completed in two years. Located in an area of ​​over 13,2 square meters, the new terminal will have three floors, all designed to take advantage of natural lighting and ventilation, ensuring greater sustainability and energy savings. The terminal will have the capacity to receive up to 14 articulated buses from the BRT system, in addition to ten conventional buses and eight vans.

 

– With a major investment, the Bairro Imperial Terminal in Santa Cruz will integrate BRT, regular lines and vans, connecting the region to the entire city. This expansion adds to the transformation that the BRT has undergone over the last four years under Mayor Eduardo Paes. In 2021, we went from 120 to 580 passengers per day, thanks to the purchase of 700 new buses, the requalification of Transoeste, the completion of Transbrasil and the construction of terminals that structure the entire system – said Eduardo Cavaliere.

The construction of the Bairro Imperial Santa Cruz Terminal is part of a broad effort to revitalize the BRT system, which has already inaugurated the Mato Alto, Magarça, Pingo D'Água and Curral Falso terminals, all of which are fully operational on the Transoeste. On the upper floor, a seating area with benches and gardens will be installed, providing greater comfort and well-being for passengers waiting for their vehicles. The lower level will house commercial stores, integrating services and convenience into the daily lives of users.

 

The project also includes accessibility ramps at all entrances, a bicycle parking area with up to 300 spaces and parking for 105 vehicles and 50 motorcycles. The works include the implementation of exclusive lanes for BRT buses and road interventions on Felipe Cardoso, Barão de Laguna and Dom Pedro I streets, with the aim of improving traffic and mobility in the region.

— We are building the BRT Imperial Terminal, an important project for Santa Cruz. We will requalify the entire area — roads, sidewalks and access roads — improving fluidity and increasing integration with the train. This will also help to relieve pressure on the Felipe Cardoso terminal, in the commercial center — highlighted the municipal secretary of Infrastructure, Wanderson Santos.

 

Transoeste Terminals

The largest of all Transoeste terminals, the Curral Falso BRT Terminal covers 19,8 square meters and offers integration between regular buses and vans from Estrada de Sepetiba and Avenida Cesário de Melo. The new arrival and departure terminal has an access walkway and a bicycle parking area with 400 spaces. Improvements were also made to the road systems and all the drainage in the surrounding area in an area of ​​almost 2 square meters, requalifying important roads, such as Avenida Cesário de Melo, Estrada de Sepetiba, Rua Felipe Cardoso and Estrada da Pedra.

 

The Pingo D'Água BRT Terminal occupies an area of ​​19 square meters and operates in conjunction with a feeder terminal, facilitating integration with conventional buses and vans from Estrada da Pedra and Avenida Dom João VI. In addition to improvements to the transportation infrastructure, the entire surrounding area was revitalized, including improvements to the road and drainage systems, and the requalification of five surrounding streets. For users who use bicycles as a means of transportation to the terminal, a space with up to 600 spaces was built, expanding mobility and integration options for passengers.

 

The Mato Alto Terminal operates in conjunction with two feeder terminals for regular buses and vans (North and South), totaling 512 square meters of covered area. The site also has two bike racks with 2.750 spaces, as well as a 590-meter-long bike path. The work also included two new overpasses on Avenida Dom João VI, with a total length of XNUMX meters, as well as turnarounds for regular vehicles.

 

The Magarça BRT Terminal was expanded with a new module connected to the existing structure, in addition to a feeder terminal for buses and vans coming from Estrada do Magarça. The site underwent road requalification and also features exclusive parking for 250 bicycles, a multi-sports court, and landscaping in the surrounding area.

 

These deliveries have transformed the routine of thousands of Rio residents who rely on public transportation in the West Zone every day. The new terminals offer more comfort, safety and regularity in trips, reducing waiting times and improving the user experience.

— We took over management of the BRT with the commitment to return efficient and quality transportation to the population. In addition, we expanded the range of services offered with Transbrasil and the Conexão BRT services, extending operating hours to 24 hours. We remain focused on improving operations to serve the more than half a million passengers who use the system daily. Together, we will continue to look after the BRT, a heritage that belongs to all of us — emphasized the president of Mobi Rio, the municipal company that manages the BRT, Cláudia Secin.
