Eight schools close the Gold Series parades. The Special Group starts this Sunday

Fight for the title of champion and the coveted access to the Special Group - Rafael Catarcione/City Hall The second and final day of the Série Ouro Samba School parades, held on Saturday (01/03) at Marquês de Sapucaí, featured eight performances by the schools. On Sunday morning (02/03), the last of them, Império Serrano, which will not be judged for having lost part of its costumes in a fire, held its parade in 95 minutes, much longer than the 55 planned, dragging the revelers along.
They still remained in Sapucaí and went down to the track to join Reizinho de Madureira.
And so ended the battle for the title of champion and the coveted access to the Special Group. The schools of the Série Ouro have been preparing intensely to enchant the public and the judges, and to guarantee a place among the greats, the greatest powers of Rio de Janeiro samba. Among the themes on Saturday night, there was the exaltation of the plurality of faith (Tradição), Brazilian culture (União do Parque Acari), the Amazon (Unidos do Porto da Pedra), the love for animals (São Clemente) and much more.
In Intendente Magalhães, approximately 30 thousand people filled the street to enjoy the presentation of ten Blocos de Enredo, from Group 1. In the stands set up along the route, families and people of all ages enjoyed the beginning of the most traditional Carnival in the North Zone.
This year, the structure had improvements, such as the sound truck, the same model as the one used in Sapucaí, which guaranteed a much higher sound quality compared to previous years, and new projectors, installed by Rioluz, with reinforced lighting in the section.
At Terreirão do Samba, Dudu Nobre, Grupo Existência, Caju Pra Baixo, Grupo RDN, Renan Oliveira and DJ from FM O Dia performed on stage and entertained the audience on Carnival Saturday. And, on Sunday (02/03), it was Jorge Aragão's turn to lead the stage.
There were 55 blocks on Saturday, with highlights including the traditional Cordão da Bola Preta, the classic Banda de Ipanema and the famous Amigos da Onça and Terreirada, which brought together around 700 thousand revelers throughout the city. Another 243 blocks will perform until Ash Wednesday and another 38 on the weekend after Carnival.
Today (02/03), the Special Group schools take over the Samba Catwalk for the unprecedented format of three days of consecutive parades. Meanwhile, the Silver Series schools begin the parades on Estrada Intendente Magalhães, and the rocking blocks continue on Avenida Chile (the complete schedule is in this bulletin).
In the city center, the traditional Cinelândia dance, the Original Carnival Contest and the parade of the carnival and party blocks complete the program. So, it's time to choose your party, put on your best costume and enjoy the festivities!

Traffic control teams issue 243 fines
Law enforcement officers seized hundreds of irregular products, such as glass bottles
On Saturday (01/03), the Public Order Secretariat (SEOP) and the Rio Municipal Guard (GM-Rio) carried out actions to organize, inspect and control traffic throughout the city, focusing on the South and Central zones — regions that concentrate the largest number of street blocks — in addition to the Sambadrome, to ensure compliance with the rules during the second night of parades in the Carnival's Gold Series.
During the operations, SEOP agents seized hundreds of irregular products, such as various beverages and glass bottles, the sale of which is prohibited for security reasons. In addition, the teams seized an identification badge and a street vendor's vest that were being used by unauthorized third parties at the Cordão do Bola Preta megabloco. The improper use of these items is prohibited by the regulations for street vendors at Rio's Street Carnival. The information will be forwarded to the Civil Police for investigation into possible irregular sale of the license.
During traffic inspections, approximately 243 citations were issued for illegal parking and other infractions, in addition to the removal of 47 vehicles. Municipal guards also carried out six containment operations in the event of a riot and provided 16 assistance to victims of sudden illness.

Almost all changes made for the Gold Series will be maintained
All closures established for the Grupo da Série Ouro parade will remain in place, except for those on Rua Frei Caneca and Viaduto 31 de Março, which were reopened to traffic at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday morning (02/03). The roads will be closed again at 19:7 p.m. on each parade day and reopened at 30:XNUMX a.m. on subsequent days.
Throughout Sunday (02/03), Monday (03/03) and Tuesday (04/03), several blocks are scheduled to parade in the city center. During Carnival, during the traffic interventions for the parades at the Sambadrome, the Leisure Area at Praça da Cruz Vermelha and the parking lot on Avenida Presidente Vargas for SAARA businesses will be closed.

Special operation to serve partygoers
Buses, BRT, VLT, Metro and Supervia operate on extended hours
The Municipal Department of Transportation has scheduled a special operation for the public to travel to the Sambadrome, in the city center, and to Estrada Intendente Magalhães, in the North Zone. Buses, BRT, VLT, Metro and Supervia will be operating during the early hours of the morning, and taxis will operate at pick-up points around the Sambadrome.
The operation of night bus transport services serving the Sambadrome region has been reinforced, with the option of integration with the Gentileza Terminal:
- Lines 104 / SN104 (Gentileza Terminal x São Conrado)
- SN309 (Gentileza x Alvorada Terminal), with a stop on the side lane of Avenida Presidente Vargas, towards Praça da Bandeira.
The BRT will be operating 24 hours a day during Carnival. To get to the Sambadrome via Gentileza Terminal, the public can connect with the VLT or lines 104/SN104 (Gentileza Terminal x São Conrado) and SN309 (Gentileza Terminal x Alvorada).
To get to Estrada Intendente Magalhães, the public should use the Campinho or Pinto Teles stations, which will have special opening hours. The return journey, after the parades, should be via the Paulo da Portela Terminal, starting at 4 am, or via the Madureira – Manaceia station, which will be open 24 hours.
Until Tuesday (04/03) and also on Saturday (08/03), taxi access to the blocked areas of the Sambadrome will be as follows:
- Blockade starts at 19pm; until 20pm, all taxis with passengers are allowed to use the area (for disembarking);
- From 20pm until the end of the lockdown: only Taxi.Rio accredited with QR Code;
- Special taxi for people with disabilities can access the blocked area without restriction.

During Carnival, MetrôRio will operate until 23:59 p.m. on Wednesday (05/03). For the Champions Parade (08/03), it will operate from 5 a.m. on 08/03 (Saturday) to 23 p.m. on 9/03 (Sunday). To access the Sambadrome, for even-numbered sectors, disembark at Praça Onze station (concentration at the Post Office Buildings).
Supervia has prepared a special plan to ensure the mobility of revelers during Carnival, with extra trips throughout the day and in the early hours of the morning. The service will be provided on the branches of Japeri, Santa Cruz (including Deodoro), Saracuruna and Belford Roxo. The Central do Brasil Station will be open 24 hours until the last train on Wednesday (05/03). During the early hours of the morning, all other stations will only operate for disembarking passengers.
Between Saturday (March 1) and Wednesday (March 03), trains will operate using the Saturday timetable as a reference for the entire operation. Additional trips will be made throughout the day, depending on demand, and there will be additional departures from Central do Brasil in the late evening. On Thursday and Friday after Carnival (March 05 and 03), trains will operate according to the weekday timetable, with adjustments according to demand.
CONSERVATION
Drain Cleaning and Branch Unblocking in Marquês de Sapucaí
After the second night of the Série Ouro parades, the General Coordination of Special Operations, of the Municipal Department of Conservation and Public Services, cleaned 46 drains and unblocked the branches of Marquês de Sapucaí. During the early hours of the morning, there were no emergency calls related to these services.
HEALTH
Medical Care at the Sambadrome and Health Surveillance Actions
On the second night of the parades at the Sambadrome, the six medical posts of the Municipal Health Department (SMS) treated 390 people, from 19 pm on Saturday (01/03) until 8 am on Sunday (02/03). Of these patients, 27 needed to be transferred to municipal hospitals. In total, over the two nights of the Série Ouro, 673 patients were treated and 52 were evacuated. Most of the cases involved trauma, such as falls, cuts, sprains and exogenous intoxication due to excessive alcohol consumption.
The SMS service plan had 32 beds, seven of which had advanced support, and 12 hydration chairs, distributed among the six medical posts. In addition, 200 health professionals were involved in the operation, with 16 ambulances equipped with advanced support (mobile ICU) at their disposal.
Health Surveillance
The Health Surveillance Superintendence continued its activities at the Sambadrome with the team from the Strategic Information Center for Health Surveillance (CIEVS-Rio), monitoring services and seeking to identify possible events of relevance to public health. On the second day of parades, 13 occurrences requiring compulsory notification were identified, but there were no records of diseases or conditions of epidemiological interest.
Health Surveillance Actions
Teams from the Municipal Institute of Health Surveillance, Zoonosis Surveillance and Agricultural Inspection (Ivisa-Rio) carried out 66 inspections of food services, medical posts, ambulances, stands and other facilities at the Sambadrome. During the visits, three infraction reports were issued for failures in food handling conditions, cleanliness of the facilities or inadequate storage of products. Thirty-five food samples were also collected for analysis at the Municipal Public Health Laboratory (LASP).
157 adhesive signs were also displayed with information about legislation regarding smoking restrictions in fully or partially enclosed public spaces.

71,2 tons of waste collected at the Sambadrome during the second day of parades
Street blocks generated 86,5 tons of waste, with emphasis on Banda de Ipanema
Comlurb collected 71,2 tons of waste after the second night of parades at the Sambadrome, held on Saturday (01/03), with the presentation of the last schools of the Gold Series. Of this, 43,6 tons were organic waste, 7,2 tons were potentially recyclable materials and 20,4 tons were from the surroundings and external areas.
In addition, the street blocks that paraded on Saturday generated 86,5 tons of waste, with the Banda de Ipanema (Ipanema Band) generating almost 10 tons (9,8) and the Bloco Amigos da Onça (Friends of the Jaguar) collecting 8,6 tons. Since the beginning of the pre-Carnival festivities on February 1, 336,5 tons of waste have been removed from the street blocks. The popular dances and bandstands held throughout the city generated 62 tons of waste, including the dance held in Cinelândia.
On the first day of parades on Estrada Intendente Magalhães, 5,6 tons of waste were collected, while the parades on Avenida Chile totaled 2 tons. In total, since the beginning of the pre-Carnival, Comlurb has collected 538 tons of waste throughout the city during the festivities.
To meet this demand, Comlurb mobilized around 8.500 street cleaners at all the carnival locations, including the Sambadrome, street blocks, Intendente Magalhães and popular dances. The cleaning operation involved more than 200 motorized vehicles and the Company made available around 12.500 240-liter and large-capacity containers (1.200 liters) to facilitate the correct disposal of waste by carnival-goers.
Comlurb's mega cleaning operation is being carried out before, during and after the samba school and street block parades. The work includes mechanized sweeping, washing, emptying waste bins and containers and removing waste. This year, the Company is using 20 thousand liters of soap and 5 thousand liters of eucalyptus essence, more than double the amount used last year, to ensure a clean and pleasant-smelling environment, especially in the areas of the chemical toilets.
Comlurb also cleans the medical stations set up in the parade areas of the megablocos in the city center and the four medical stations at the Sambadrome for assistance during technical rehearsals. Each station has two street cleaners.

Teams distribute 866 identification bracelets to children and teenagers
The service was carried out in Sapucaí, Intendente Magalhães, Banda de Ipanema and Parque Realengo
On the second day of the Série Ouro parades, at Marquês de Sapucaí, and on the first day at Intendente Magalhães, the Municipal Department of Social Welfare (SMAS) once again distributed identification bracelets to children and teenagers. This service is essential to ensure the safety of children and teenagers during Carnival. In addition to the Sambadrome and Estrada Intendente Magalhães, the distribution also took place during the Banda de Ipanema parade, in the South Zone, and during the revelry at Parque Realengo Susana Naspolini, in the West Zone. In total, 866 identification bracelets were distributed.
The distribution of the bracelets was done as follows:
- Marquis of Sapucaí (Gold Series): 234 bracelets
- Intendant Magalhães (Plot Blocks): 422 bracelets
- Exit of the subway at General Osório Square (Ipanema area): 160 bracelets
- Realengo Susana Naspolini Park (Block H Romeu Pinto): 50 bracelets
In addition, SMAS also offered the service of Community Spaces for sons and daughters up to 12 years old of street vendors who work during Carnival. At the Rachel de Queiroz Early Childhood Education Center (EDI), near the Sambadrome, 34 children were served. At Intendente Magalhães, there was no demand for this service.
The distribution of identification bracelets and the Social Space are part of the SMAS Carnival campaign: “Respect my samba, childhood and our rights: protection is the general block”.
WOMEN
Teams distributed informational material on violence prevention
Mobilization actions were carried out in the blocks, in Sapucaí and in Intendente
A total of 270 mobilizers were present at the main blocks, in Sapucaí and Estrada Intendente Magalhães, distributing informative material as part of a work to prevent violence against women. No assistance was provided by the teams of the Special Secretariat for Policies for Women and Care.

Folia Verde: eight tons of recyclable material collected in two days
Campaign mobilized solid waste collection and awareness teams
The two nights of parades of the Série Ouro at Marquês de Sapucaí and the processions this Saturday (01/03) were marked by a show of colors, joy and, mainly, environmental education. The campaign Green Folia, from the Municipal Secretariat for the Environment and Climate (SMAC), debuted in full force, mobilizing solid waste collection and awareness-raising teams along the entire avenue, and also in the blocks.
In two days, 8 tons of recyclable material were collected, including the Sambadrome and Saturday blocks that received actions from the Green Folia. The professionals worked to ensure the cleanliness of Sapucaí, separating recyclable materials and sending the garbage to the correct destination.
In addition, members of the Environmental Education Center (CEA) distributed informative materials and guided the public on the importance of selective collection and conscious disposal.
Folia Verde Seal for sustainable blocks
The Municipal Secretariat for the Environment and Climate has also started awarding blocks that stand out for their sustainable practices. Green Folia Seal was granted to the following blocks on Saturday: Cordão do Bola Preta, Bloco da Terreirada and Beco do Rato.
This Sunday (02/03), plaques will be delivered to the Divinas Tretas, Cordão do Boitatá, and Arteiros da Glória blocks.
“The beginning of the campaign Green Folia was an absolute success. We believe that Carnival is a time for celebration, but also for environmental responsibility. We are very happy with the support of the public and the groups for our campaign. Together, we are building a cleaner and more sustainable Carnival”, says Tainá de Paula, Municipal Secretary of Environment and Climate.

Procon carried out guidance inspections in 31 more establishments
Lack of price on products was one of the problems found
The Department of Consumer Protection and Defense, through Procon Carioca, carried out another inspection to provide guidance to establishments in Sapucaí, on this second day of the Série Ouro Samba Schools parade. This time, 31 establishments were inspected, but only five of them received guidance on how to adapt. Among the problems found were: lack of price tags on products, identification in food storage and handling, water portability certificate and temporary authorization permit.
During the two days of parades, Procon Carioca inspectors carried out 54 inspections in total.

Parades at the Marquis of Sapucaí
On Sunday (02/03), starting at 22 pm, four schools from the Special Group will perform at Marquês de Sapucaí and begin the historic parades of the Special Group Schools of the Rio Carnival. They are: Unidos de Padre Miguel, opening the night, Imperatriz Leopoldinense, Unidos do Viradouro and Estação Primeira de Mangueira.
The Special Group schools continue the show at Marquês de Sapucaí on Monday (03/03) and Tuesday (04/03), with the parades of the elite associations of the Rio Carnival, including the 2024 champion, Acadêmicos do Viradouro.

Cinelandia Dances
In addition to the street parties and the spectacular parades of Sapucaí, there is another option for partying that has become a tradition in the city: the Cinelândia dances. On the stage set up in front of the steps of the City Hall, various artists and the Tupy Orchestra will keep the party going with a selection of carnival themes and classic marches during the four days of programming.
This Sunday (02/03), the Baile da Cinelândia stage will feature 11 performances, opening and closing the night with the Tupy Orchestra. The Original Partygoer Competitions will also be held in the children's and adult categories (Originality and Clóvis). At 19:30 pm, on the first day, the ball will begin with the Tupy Orchestra and, throughout the program, artists such as Paulo Nunes, Osmar do Bregue, Reginaldo Bessa and Sônia Delphino will entertain the audience.
