- Integrated operation seizes bladed weapons in Grande Méier.
The teams seized 19 bladed weapons and sharp objects - Disclosure The Rio de Janeiro City Hall carried out, this Wednesday (July 8th), another integrated operation of social assistance and urban order in Grande Méier. The action, carried out by the Subprefecture of the North Zone II, in partnership with the Secretariat of Public Order (Seop), had the participation of the Municipal Guard, the Municipal Secretariat of Social Assistance (SMAS), Comlurb and the Local Executive Management (GEL) of Grande Méier.
During the operation, the teams seized 19 bladed weapons and sharp objects, including six knives, nine piercing objects, and four scissors, as well as materials used for drug consumption. Approximately 1,2 tons of unusable materials were also removed from public roads, contributing to improved urban cleanliness, mobility, and safety in the region.
With the results from this Wednesday, the integrated operations carried out by the Subprefecture of the North Zone II, in partnership with other municipal agencies, have removed more than 100 bladed weapons and sharp objects from circulation in Greater Méier during the last six months. In the same period, more than eight tons of unusable goods were removed from the streets, and dozens of vulnerable people accepted referrals to shelters run by the Rio de Janeiro City Hall, strengthening the joint action between urban planning and social assistance.
– Urban planning goes far beyond enforcement. Every bladed weapon removed from the streets represents one less risk for the population and reinforces the feeling of security in public spaces. At the same time, we maintain ongoing support work, offering opportunities for vulnerable people to rebuild their lives with the support of the municipal network. This is the City Hall's commitment: to care for the city and its people in an integrated way – highlighted the sub-mayor of North Zone II, Douglas Araújo.
The enforcement operations are carried out permanently in different neighborhoods of the North Zone, bringing together various municipal agencies to combat irregularities, preserve public spaces, promote urban cleanliness, and expand access to social assistance services. This integrated action has contributed to improving the quality of life of residents and strengthening the presence of public authorities in these areas.
