The OSB is now an Intangible Cultural Heritage of the municipality - Disclosure The mayor of Rio, Eduardo Paes, signed a decree, in the Monday (12/04) edition of the Official Gazette, in which he registers the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra (OSB) as Cultural Heritage of an Intangible Nature of the municipality.
According to decree nº 48.727, among the justifications is the “need to protect and promote cultural expressions that constitute part of the Carioca identity”, in addition to the importance of the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra in the dissemination and perpetuation of classical music.
Founded in 1940, the OSB is the most traditional symphonic ensemble in the country. It has performed more than five thousand concerts during its 80-year history. In the city, its performances take place mainly on stages such as the Theatro Municipal, Sala Cecília Meireles and Teatro Riachuelo Rio.
