Madureira Mestre Monarco and Rita Lee parks stand out as tourists' favorites.

That Flamengo Park is the favorite of tourists visiting Rio is undeniable. It also makes perfect sense that Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon and Quinta da Boa Vista appear close behind on visitors' list of preferences. The big news from the Tourism Observatory, the data intelligence arm of the Rio Municipal Tourism Secretariat (SMTUR-RIO), is the high demand for attractions such as the Rita Lee Olympic Park in the Southwest Zone, Madureira Mestre Monarco Park in the North Zone, and, in the West Zone, the Radical Park in Deodoro and Realengo Susana Naspolini.

In total, according to the Observatory, the 10 most popular parks in the city received 35 million visitors – of which 4,2 million were tourists – between January and September 2025. Fourth in tourist preference, the Rita Lee Olympic Park totaled 244.921 visits during the period, just after the Garota de Ipanema Park (3rd), in the South Zone, and ahead of Quinta da Boa Vista (5th).

Opened in 2012 and the third largest park in the city, considered one of the most successful urban planning projects in recent Brazilian history, and a benchmark for leisure, entertainment, culture and services in the North Zone, Madureira Mestre Monarco Park ranks sixth in tourist preference, with 47 visitors during the period. In the ranking of total visitors, which includes tourists and citizens in general, the park came in fourth place, with 3,1 million visits, behind only Flamengo Park (1st), Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon (2nd) and Quinta da Boa Vista (3rd).

The Deodoro and Realengo Susana Naspolini Radical parks ranked seventh and eighth respectively in tourist visitation, and fifth and sixth in the overall visitation ranking. Completing both lists are the Carioca Pavuna and Oeste parks, located in the North and West zones.

In nine months, almost 10 million tourists

The city of Rio de Janeiro has already accumulated almost 10 million tourists in the total period from January to September 2025, according to the Tourism Observatory: 9.441.650 tourists in the first nine months of the year, 12,1% more than the same period in 2024, when tourist activity totaled 8.420.282 people. The largest growth is seen in international tourism – 53,6%, with 1.615.484 tourists – while domestic activity grew by 6,2%: from 7.368.688 to 7.826.166 in the period.

Another interesting piece of data from the Tourism Observatory is that visitors are staying longer in the city, a fact that is relevant in economic and sustainability terms: the average length of stay increased from 4,25 days in 2023 to 4,58 days in 2025. This is even considering that there are still three months left until the end of 2025.

It is also important to remember that the performance of international tourism had already broken records in the first eight months of 2025: from January to August, the total of 1.478.738 foreign tourists had already surpassed the total recorded in 2024 (1.466.515).
