Mayor of Rio swears in new secretaries and municipal leaders

The new secretaries and directors who took office at the City Palace - Beth Santos/City Hall of Rio Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes swore in new city secretaries and leaders this Friday (03/02). During a ceremony at the City Palace in Botafogo, Paes emphasized that the new team is capable of further advancing the city's public policies.
– I made a point of holding this ceremony to say that here we have a team of people who manage public affairs and have goals. But, above all, there are people who believe in politics as a way to transform society for the better. Here, not everyone thinks the same and it is okay to think differently. What allows us to steer the city in the right direction, listening to everyone, is exactly this combination. Being the city’s secretary of Rio de Janeiro and being able to serve our city is a huge honor. You are a great team of people who I have known for a long time. Welcome, we will work hard – said Mayor Eduardo Paes.
The new Secretary of Social Welfare, Adilson Pires, said that the team's greatest challenge is to transform the lives of Rio's citizens for the better. The head of the welfare department spoke as a representative of the new appointees.
– This ceremony is very important, we need to value the role of the city secretary of Rio de Janeiro, which is an honor for anyone who works in politics and cares about the well-being of the population. And this team has a maestro, Mayor Eduardo Paes, an experienced and well-prepared person. Our expectation is that the City Hall, which has already made great progress, can dedicate more time to making Rio de Janeiro an even more wonderful city – said the new secretary.
Back in government, now as Chief of Staff, Eduardo Cavaliere said it is an honor to be responsible for the planning and goals of the municipal government. Before accepting the new challenge, he was the head of the Secretariat for the Environment and Climate.
– The arrival of these new qualified professionals from the political parties that are part of our alliance strengthens the government’s ability to deliver good public policies to the people of Rio. It is a new moment in municipal management, but with the appearance of continuity of a government that has command and direction – said Cavaliere.

Eduardo Cavaliere — Civil House: State deputy elected for the 2023/2026 term, Eduardo Cavaliere has a degree in Law and Applied Mathematics from Fundação Getúlio Vargas, with international experience in China, Eduardo Cavaliere left the private sector to pursue public life. At the age of 26, he took over the Secretariat of Environment and Climate in the current administration of Mayor Eduardo Paes. He was elected national president of the Brazilian Capitals for Sustainability (CB27) and Brazil's delegate to the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP26), in 2021. He now takes over the recreated Secretariat of the Civil House.
Marcelo Calero — Culture: Lawyer, diplomat, professor, speaker and former federal deputy. He was also Secretary of Government and Public Integrity – Segovi (2021-22) and of Culture for the city of Rio de Janeiro (2015), as well as Minister of Culture (2016). At Segovi, he created the Rio de Janeiro Public Integrity and Transparency Program, providing tools to prevent corrupt practices and promoting reporting channels.
Adilson Pires — Social Assistance: One of the founders of the Workers' Party (PT), Adilson Pires was a member of the first municipal board and was president of the party for two terms. Elected as a city councilor for the first time in 1988, he was Secretary of State for Social Action and Citizenship in the Benedita da Silva government in 2002. Ten years later, he was elected vice mayor of Rio in the Somos um Rio coalition of Mayor Eduardo Paes, and also held the position of Secretary of Social Development. In 2020, he was appointed Secretary of Labor in the City Hall of Maricá.
Marco Aurélio Regalo — Conservation: A civil engineer with a degree from Veiga de Almeida University and an MBA in Public Management from Fundação Getúlio Vargas, he has been a civil servant at the Rio de Janeiro City Hall since 1988. He began his career at the Municipal Department of Conservation, where he also served as Conservation Manager and Advisor. He also worked at the Rio-Águas Foundation, where he held the positions of Director of Public Works and Conservation and Regional Conservation Coordinator.
Tainá de Paula — Environment and Climate: Architect, urban planner, urban activist and city councilor. Tainá has worked on several urbanization projects and has also supported movements such as the Popular Housing Union (UMP) and the Homeless Workers' Movement (MTST). She works as regional coordinator of the Brazil Cities Project and represented Brazil at the United Nations World Forum on Gender and Development in 2019.
Tatiana Roque — Science and Technology: A professor at the Mathematics Institute of UFRJ, with a PhD from the Alberto Luiz Coimbra Institute of Graduate Studies and Research in Engineering (Coppe), Tatiana Roque ran for federal deputy for the PSOL in 2018. In the 2022 election, she ran for the same position, now for the PSB. She is the author of the book “History of mathematics: a critical view, undoing myths and legends”, one of the winners of the Jabuti Prize in 2013.
Daniela Maia — Tourism: Businesswoman, cultural producer and former president of Riotur, Daniela Maia studied Social Communication in Rio de Janeiro and Fashion Design at Parsons School in New York. She has always been involved in politics: she is the daughter of former mayor and current city councilor of Rio, Cesar Maia, and the twin sister of former president of the Chamber of Deputies Rodrigo Maia.
Everton Gomes — Work and Income: Master in Political Science from UFF, Bachelor in Law from UFRJ, civil police officer and coordinator of the Climate Change Commission of the Permanent Conference of Political Parties of Latin America and the Caribbean (Copppal)
Guilherme Schleder — Sports: Elected state deputy, Guilherme Schleder studied Law at Faculdade Cândido Mendes. Raised in Jacarepaguá, he began his public life at the age of 22, in 1996, as an advisor to then-councilman Eduardo Paes. He was executive vice president of the Rio de Janeiro State Sports Superintendence (Suderj); chief secretary of the Civil House, in 2009; and secretary of Sports between January 2021 and March 2022. He left the position to run for deputy and now returns to the post.
Tony Chalita — Digital Transformation and Public Integrity: Former Secretary of Government and Public Integrity in the current administration of Mayor Eduardo Paes, lawyer Tony Chalita takes over the new government portfolio. With a Master's degree in State Law from PUC-SP and a postgraduate degree in Electoral Law from Escola Paulista da Magistratura, he worked as a legal consultant for the São Paulo Association of Municipalities. At Segovi, Chalita coordinated nine sub-secretariats, coordinators and companies in the city. Now at the head of SMTDI, he will be responsible for the digital transformation process of the City of Rio, also incorporating IplanRio, the Municipal IT Company.
Diego Zeidan – Solidarity Economic Development: Deputy Mayor of Maricá, Diego Zeidan has a degree in Administration from UFF, being approved in first place in 2016. He also was approved in second place in the History course to become a teacher. In 2017, during the administration of Mayor Fabiano Horta in Maricá, he was chosen to manage the Solidarity Economy portfolio.
Patrick Corrêa – Housing: Specialist in Institutional Relations, he was an executive advisor at the City Hall of Maceió (AL) before being invited by Mayor Eduardo Paes.
Daniela Santa Cruz — City of Arts Foundation: Artist and lawyer, Daniela Santa Cruz is the new president of Cidade das Artes Bibi Ferreira. She holds a PhD in Urban Law from UERJ and is a member of the Committee for the Defense of Freedom of Expression of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB).
Júlio Arthur Villas Boas — Parks and Gardens: Civil engineer with an MBA in Project Management and Real Estate and Civil Construction Business Management. He has extensive experience in execution, supervision, inspection and management of works and projects.
