Mayor Eduardo Paes inaugurates the new secretariat

Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes and his deputy Nilton Caldeira swore in the 01 secretaries, the attorney general and the city's comptroller general, as well as the new deputy mayors and managers of companies, foundations, government agencies and agencies linked to the City Hall, on the afternoon of Friday (January 01). During a ceremony at the City Palace, Paes emphasized that his priorities include reducing the poverty rate in the capital, valuing public servants and combating corruption.

At the beginning of the ceremony, an ecumenical act was held with the presence of the Archbishop of Rio, Cardinal Dom Orani Tempesta, the Evangelical Bishop Abner Ferreira, Rabbi Nilton Bonder and Babalorixá Marcio de Jagun. In his speech, the mayor emphasized that he will prioritize social investments in the most needy communities and regions of the city, such as the North and West Zones. Resources and income transfer programs for the poorest will also be expanded.

– We will restore public services in these areas, improve the streets and infrastructure, and create work fronts in these regions. It is my priority to reduce the intolerable poverty rates and implement appropriate policies for the homeless population. The poorest will be my priority, as they have always been, when governing.

 

 

Municipal employees will also receive special attention from the new mayor. Even in the face of a serious fiscal crisis, Paes assured that these professionals will be valued.

– I renew the 11 proposals we made with them during the campaign, ensuring stability in the receipt of their salaries and bonuses, improvements in working conditions and opportunities for professional growth. We will be creative in seeking new sources of financing and resource allocation.

The mayor also made it clear that management standards need to change. For this reason, he created a department dedicated to transparency and public integrity.

– Corruption is abject, intolerable, unacceptable and must be punished in an exemplary manner. We will improve standards of governance, transparency and compliance. There will be no tolerance for any irregularity, whether internal or external to the City Hall.

Just as he did earlier during his inauguration ceremony, Paes once again mentioned famous samba artists in his speech. First, he recalled the poet Jorge Aragão, with the verses from “Moleque Atrevido”: “Respect those who can reach where we have reached.” At the end, the mayor recited the song “Renascer das Cinzas” by Martinho da Vila.
