Mayor participates in the signing ceremony of the new Galeão concession contract

The new stage of Galeão's management had its changes approved by the Federal Court of Auditors - Marcelo Piu/City of Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes participated, this Thursday (25/9), alongside the Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, in the signing ceremony of the term that adjusts the concession contract of Rio de Janeiro's Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport. The new stage of Galeão's management had its changes approved by the Federal Court of Auditors (TCU).
"Rio is viable, magical, and everyone wants to come here. Soon, we'll surpass Guarulhos Airport in welcoming foreign visitors. Now we're entering a new phase, and I'm certain that Galeão will consolidate itself as the country's main airport," said Eduardo Paes during the ceremony at Galeão Airport, on Governador Island.
The agreement approved by the TCU redefines central points of the concession, such as the assisted sale of the concessionaire through a simplified competitive process, which will have a minimum bid of R$932 million.
A variable contribution of 20% of the concessionaire's gross revenue is also expected to be charged until 2039, in addition to the creation of financial compensation in the event of restrictions on passenger movement at Santos Dumont.
"This is an important moment for strengthening the aviation sector in Rio de Janeiro. No one talks about Rio without mentioning Tom Jobim, Christ the Redeemer, Corcovado, and Galeão. The airport is part of the history of Rio and the country. Today, we are not merely signing a contract. We are celebrating the resumption of strategic planning to strengthen this major aviation asset in South America. Galeão will become the major hub for international aviation in South America," said Minister Silvio Costa Filho.
The term also establishes Infraero's departure from the administration of Galeão, scheduled to occur by March 2026.
"Today we celebrate the signing of the self-composition agreement, renegotiating our concession contract. This new agreement is the result of months of intense work and technical discussions led by the TCU (TCU). This renegotiation reflects two fundamental points: the need to adapt the contract to the most modern concession parameters in Brazil and the recognition that continued management of the concessionaire brings positive results for passengers," stated Alexandre Monteiro, president of the concessionaire RIOgaleão.
