City government expands installation of large-capacity containers in communities to facilitate proper waste disposal.

This year, more than 400 pieces of equipment were distributed in large favela complexes - Press Release The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through the Subprefecture of Large Complexes and Comlurb, installed twenty-four high-capacity 1.200-liter containers on Tuesday (December 23rd) in the Morro do Trem community, in Vila Kosmos, in the North Zone. The goal is to ensure better waste management and facilitate proper disposal by residents.
The equipment was distributed at strategic points on eight streets in the region: Rua Soldado Ivo de Oliveira, Rua Soldado Bernardino da Silva, Rua Soldado Servino Mengarda, Rua 3, Rua 5, Rua 7, Rua 8, and Rua A. The streets also received general cleaning services with sweeping and water jets, in addition to unclogging drains. This year, more than 400 pieces of equipment have been distributed in large favela complexes, such as Alemão, Penha, and Jacarezinho.
– This is an effort that has been transforming the quality of life in the communities, improving sanitation and well-being. But it is important that each resident understands their role in preserving the common space, disposing of their garbage in the bins and thus contributing to the prevention of diseases and flooding due to clogged drains on rainy days – highlighted the sub-mayor of the Large Complexes, Marlí Peçanha.
The 1.200-liter containers are designed for the automatic disposal of waste directly into Comlurb trucks, allowing for faster and more efficient removal and preventing it from being left exposed on public roads.
The president of Comlurb, Jorge Arraes, emphasized the importance of installing the equipment in the communities.
– The large-scale installation of containers is improving the organization of public spaces in communities. Every day, we have far more bags of trash inside the containers than are thrown on the streets.
The Department of Conservation also participated in the action in Vila Kosmos, leveling the ground in some areas for the installation of the containers.
