  • The Rio Digital Parking System is expanded in Barra, Urca, and Centro, and the parking time limit is increased to ten hours.
The Rio Digital Parking System will start operating in approximately 5,6 parking spaces in different areas of the city.

The Rio City Hall, through the Municipal Department of Transportation (SMTR), is expanding the Rio Rotativo Digital parking system this Wednesday (September 16th) by approximately 1,600 new parking spaces in Urca, in the Praia Vermelha region; in the city center, on Buenos Aires and República do Líbano streets; and on the Barra da Tijuca waterfront, in the stretch between Praça do Ó and Alvorada.

From the same date, the maximum stay in a parking space in the Rio Rotativo Digital system will increase from six to ten hours throughout the city. The fee remains at R$ 2 for each two-hour parking period.

Integrated into the Jaé app, the Rio Rotativo Digital system replaces the old paper parking tickets with a fully digital system. The model allows for the purchase of parking time via mobile phone, facilitates enforcement, and enables real-time monitoring of parking space occupancy. The initiative aims to make the use of public space more practical and transparent and encourage vehicle turnover in areas of highest demand.

With this new phase, the Rio Rotativo Digital parking system will operate in approximately 5,6 parking spaces across different areas of the city. The system is already available around the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon and along the beaches of Leme, Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon, São Conrado, and Barra — from Praia dos Amores to Praça do Ó — as well as Tijuca. In total, 350 parking attendants are registered and authorized to work in the system.

How works

To use Rio Rotativo Digital, the driver must park in a designated space and access the Jaé app. In the Rio Rotativo option, the address is automatically identified by GPS. Then, simply enter the vehicle's license plate, choose the parking period, and make the payment, which can be done via Pix or credit card.

With the increased limit, it will be possible to purchase up to five consecutive two-hour periods, totaling up to ten hours of parking in the same spot.

Licensed parking attendants guide drivers on how the system works and how to use the Jaé app. They do not receive payments from users, as parking time is purchased exclusively through the app.

The professionals also assist in collecting information about parking space occupancy through the Rio Rotativo Digital technological platform, contributing to the monitoring and improvement of the operation.

Parking attendants have no enforcement powers and cannot issue fines. Traffic violation notices continue to be issued exclusively by the traffic authority, based on images and records generated by the platform.

Over 256 validations

Since the start of operations on July 17th, the Rio Rotativo Digital system has already recorded more than 256 validations of two-hour parking periods.

The experience gained since the project's inception has contributed to improving operations and consolidating a more modern and digital public parking model. Expansion to new regions will continue gradually.
