City hall demolishes vacant building in the Penha Complex to implement an eco-point.

The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through the Subprefecture of Large Complexes, in partnership with Comlurb and the Secretariat of Conservation, began this Friday morning (March 27th) the cleaning of a plot of land and the demolition of an idle property in the same space, on Estrada José Rucas, in Vila Cruzeiro, in the Penha Complex.
At the site, which was a critical point for illegal dumping of garbage, a Comlurb (Rio de Janeiro's municipal waste management company) eco-point will be implemented to organize waste disposal and contribute to the prevention of health problems and avoid flooding on rainy days.
According to the Deputy Mayor for Large Complexes, Marlí Peçanha, in addition to fulfilling a long-standing demand from residents, community leaders, and merchants, the degraded area will be transformed into a more organized, pleasant, and valuable space.
"We want to encourage the population to dispose of their waste correctly, reinforcing our commitment to uniting sustainability, urban organization and well-being," said the deputy mayor.
