Rio de Janeiro City Hall declares three days of official mourning for the death of samba singer Bira Presidente

The headquarters of Rio City Hall - Fabio Motta/City Hall of Rio The Rio City Hall has declared three days of official mourning for the death of Ubirajara Félix do Nascimento, known as Bira Presidente, one of the founders of the Cacique de Ramos group and the Fundo de Quintal group. The decree signed by Mayor Eduardo Paes was published in a special edition of the Official Gazette on the afternoon of Sunday (15/06).
The decree takes into account that Bira Presidente was a kind of cultural diplomat for Rio, a universal ambassador of samba and joy, for his life dedicated to building the cultural identity of Rio. A Flamengo fan and native of Mangueira, Bira Presidente was responsible for educating generations of samba dancers and people from Rio over the course of more than 60 years of his life dedicated to carnival groups. A maestro and creative collaborator of composers, performers and musicians from all genres of Brazilian popular music, he was the father of a nation that has as its members samba stalwarts such as Beth Carvalho, Leci Brandão, Jorge Aragão, Marquinhos de Oswaldo Cruz and Teresa Cristina.
