- Rio de Janeiro City Hall inaugurates the Super Center for Well-being and Quality of Life for Senior Citizens in Jacarepaguá.
With 600 square meters of built area, the unit has the capacity to serve up to 300 elderly people per shift - Disclosure / SEMESQV The Rio de Janeiro City Hall inaugurated this Saturday (January 31st) the Super Center for Well-being and Quality of Life for Seniors, in Jacarepaguá, in the Southwest Zone. The unit has 600 square meters of built area and capacity to serve up to 300 seniors per shift.
"This place represents, for older people – and I am 56 years old – the possibility of still living in a better Rio de Janeiro. That's what we're doing here. And this facility is just a small seed, it's a space where we are planting something much better for all generations of Rio residents and people from the state of Rio de Janeiro," stated the mayor of Rio, Eduardo Paes.
The new public facility presents an innovative concept of care, social interaction, and health promotion, especially geared towards the elderly population of the municipality. Located in one of the largest neighborhoods in the Southwest Zone, the Jacarepaguá Senior Center was designed to be a modern, complete, and welcoming space, capable of stimulating autonomy, active aging, and social inclusion.
"We designed this place with great care so that it would be a benchmark in public policy, paying close attention to this age group and to the most important issue of our time: longevity. Everyone here wants to live to 100, and I'm sure that only people who are 100 years old will leave here running, studying, using computers, and living life happily," said Deputy Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere.
The center brings together, in a single location, spaces designed for physical activities, an integrated gym, classrooms, a reading area, and initiatives focused on digital and social inclusion. There is also a space dedicated to health and well-being, with activities such as yoga and stretching, which contribute to physical and emotional balance, disease prevention, and improved quality of life.
The service is provided by a multidisciplinary team, consisting of nutritionists, social workers, occupational therapists, nurses, psychologists, and trained agents, who welcome and guide users with attentive listening, care, and respect.
– This Super Center represents much more than the inauguration of a physical space. It symbolizes the respect, care, and commitment of the Rio de Janeiro City Hall to those who have built our city throughout their lives. Here, each senior citizen will be welcomed in their entirety, with opportunities for social interaction, health, learning, and autonomy. Jacarepaguá receives a facility designed to promote active, dignified, and happy aging, strengthening bonds and ensuring that the best years are lived with quality, agency, and affection – stated the Secretary of Healthy Aging and Quality of Life, Felipe Michel.
Community centers are welcoming spaces designed for those who want to stay active, learn new things, and strengthen bonds.
The venue hosts workshops, practical classes, and discussion groups that encourage the exchange of experiences, the preservation of memory, body movement, and the formation of new friendships.
To participate in the activities, simply go to the unit with your identity document, CPF (Brazilian tax identification number), proof of residence, 3x4 photo, updated vaccination record, and a medical certificate authorizing the practice of physical activities.
With the inauguration of the Jacarepaguá Senior Center, the Rio de Janeiro City Hall reaffirms its commitment to innovative public policies aimed at the elderly, expanding access to services, leisure, knowledge and health, and consolidating a new model of comprehensive care for healthy aging in the city.
Adriana Arruda, a 59-year-old retiree and resident of Taquara in Jacarepaguá, attended the inauguration. She said she was excited because the new facility will represent a change in her life.
"The place is wonderful, the staff are attentive and kind. I can't wait to sign up for Pilates and yoga," Adriana emphasized.
In addition to the Jacarepaguá unit, the municipality of Rio de Janeiro has other community centers for the elderly: two in the South Zone (Gávea and Botafogo) and units in Tijuca, Penha, Madureira, Santa Cruz, and soon one on Ilha do Governador.
