Rio City Hall revitalizes neighborhoods in the North Zone with the Bairro Maravilha program

Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes handed over a series of works from the Bairro Maravilha program in the city's North Zone this Saturday (24/05). Ilha do Governador, Ramos, Bonsucesso and Olaria were included in the revitalization of 46 streets, promoting improvements in drainage, sanitation, paving and accessibility. The interventions, carried out by the Municipal Infrastructure Department, mark another step in the valorization of the Rio suburbs, with a focus on the population's quality of life.

– I have a commitment to this region. The North Zone is the epitome of the city. When we improve the urban environment, the infrastructure and bring benefits, everything evolves -, stated the mayor, referring to the neighborhoods that received interventions from the program.

– It’s great to be delivering this improved, revitalized space. This structure here was very old and we need to improve it. It’s great to see these spaces restored. We will continue investing in improvements in this region –, assured Eduardo Paes.

In Ramos, 17 residential streets were completely redeveloped, including João Silva, Felisbelo Freire and Gonzaga Duque streets. The R$19,4 million investment allowed for the installation of 934 meters of storm drainage, 520 meters of drinking water, 1.200 meters of sewage, in addition to the application of 4.300 square meters of asphalt and the construction of 31.600 square meters of accessible sidewalks. The works solve long-standing problems of flooding and potholes, ensuring greater comfort, safety and mobility for those living in the region.

In Bonsucesso, 13 streets were renovated, including Viúva Garcia, Costa Mendes and Mesquitela. The interventions represent an investment of R$40,5 million. The project includes the construction of 2,3 meters of storm drainage, 2,5 meters of drinking water, 1,1 meters of sewage, 7,4 square meters of paving and 33 square meters of new sidewalks. Another five streets are still under construction, with completion scheduled for the coming months.

The first stage of the construction work in the Maravilha neighborhood in Olaria has also been completed, with the delivery of 11 renovated streets, such as Estrada Engenho da Pedra and Rua Leocádia Rêgo. The investment of R$39,1 million made it possible to install 3,7 meters of drainage, 606 meters of water, 2,2 meters of sewage, 61 square meters of asphalt and 50,5 square meters of sidewalks. Construction work is ongoing at 15 other addresses in the neighborhood. The actions improve the drainage of rainwater and the circulation of vehicles and pedestrians.

Governor's Island: construction work is progressing at a fast pace in the Banking Complex

Earlier, on Governor's Island, the mayor handed over five completed streets in the Banking Complex: Vieira Almeida, Bom Futuro, Passagem 2, Juan Pablo Duarte, and Avenida Ilha do Fundão. In total, 24 streets will be redeveloped, with a focus on drainage, paving and sanitation.

More than 83 thousand square meters of public area will be recovered by the City Hall, with an investment of R$ 31,2 million. The interventions are expected to be completed in the first half of 2026.

– We will continue this work here on Ilha do Governador. This area will become even better -, stated Mayor Eduardo Paes, after delivering the first stages of the Maravilha Neighborhood in the region of the Banking Complex.

More than R$1,2 billion invested and 267 thousand people benefited

Since the program was resumed in 2021, 61 locations in the city have benefited from works in the Maravilha neighborhood. There were 54 projects completed in the West Zone, in neighborhoods such as Guaratiba, Campo Grande and Santa Cruz, and seven in the North Zone, including interventions in Encantado, Rocha Miranda, Barros Filho and Madureira. Currently, 24 construction fronts are underway throughout the city, totaling an investment of over R$1,2 billion.

In total, more than 285 kilometers of urbanization have already been carried out by the program, with a direct impact on urban mobility, road safety, flood prevention and real estate value.
