Permits for practicing sports on the Rio coast - Disclosure/City Hall

Continuing the urban planning of sports activities on the Rio coast by the city government, secretaries Guilherme Schleder (Sports) and Brenno Carnevale (Public Order), together with the deputy mayor of the South Zone, Ana Ribeiro, and representatives of the Urban Control Coordination (CCU) and the Municipal Guard, were on Copacabana beach this Wednesday (25/08) to deliver 15 more licensing permits. The document regularizes the use of the public area for the practice of footvolley, swimming, beachboxing, stand up paddleboarding and crosstraining.

The first certificates were already issued last month. Since April, when it began its work, the Committee for Qualification of Public Spaces for Sports and Leisure has mapped the neighborhoods of Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon and Barra da Tijuca, totaling more than 500 accreditations. Now, the mapping is focused on Recreio dos Bandeirantes and Flamengo.

– This symbolic handover ceremony is important because it marks the work. The department was not responsible for doing this registration, but when I took over in January, I wanted to understand the mechanics, especially given the changes caused by the pandemic. A committee was created and has been gradually carrying out the legalization. The regulation is a safety measure for those who offer and practice the sport – said Schleder.

Brenno Carnevale understands that the bureaucracy of legalization may seem heavy, but he has been demystifying this through the need to comply with the rules.

– We want to make life easier for those who want to occupy public spaces in a regular and organized way. And it’s not just to practice sports, but to generate jobs and income. It’s doing what the city does best, which is welcoming people and providing them with security and mobility – he pointed out.

Ana Ribeiro says that it has been rewarding to participate in this entire process, as it represents an organizational action.

– This is yet another action to organize the southern zone’s waterfront, which was lacking supervision and organization. We have been working hard to ensure that this is completed as quickly as possible – he assured.

Benefiting from the permit to practice footvolley in Ipanema, Natália Guitler agrees with the need for regulation: “This is a dream come true, as the organization is a bet on the growth of the sport.”
