- City Hall delivers definitive property titles in Bangu and revitalized square in Campo Grande
Rosária Trotta Square was revitalized and transformed into a gastronomic hub - Fabio Motta/City of Rio Rio City Hall delivered 24 definitive property titles (the General Property Registry – RGI) to residents of the Sociólogo Betinho subdivision in Bangu, in the West Zone, this Sunday (August 8). The delivery is a historic milestone for the region's residents and the formal recognition of ownership of their homes.
"A property with a regularized status is worth much more than a property with an irregular status. We want our children to have a better life than we did. Something that always concerns us is stability, having a regularized home to leave to our children. What we're delivering today is greater security. You're gaining a real guarantee of ownership. This is transformative," said Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes.
Prior to this delivery by the Community Action Secretariat, more than 280 Housing Recognition Terms (TRMs) had already been distributed to residents. This is a crucial document for ensuring families' connection to their properties, marking important steps toward definitive title.
With land regularization, families previously living in insecurity now have financial stability, increased property values, and new opportunities to improve their quality of life. This achievement represents dignity, social equality, and a decisive step toward consolidating the right to housing.
"This document not only provides security for residents, but also all rights acquired through the property. Today marks the first major delivery of titles, the result of a long process," said Community Action Secretary Gustavo Freue.
In addition to ensuring legal security, the issuance of titles allows families to sell their properties with peace of mind, pass them on to future generations, and gain access to credit, housing programs, and urban improvements. With an investment of R$50 million, this is the largest land regularization program in the city's history.
"This document represents housing security for me, proving that the house is mine. We all need this document. It's special to me; if I ever need to sell or rent it, I'll know how to do it," said housewife Karen Ribeiro Gomes, 32, mother of 2-year-old Rebeca.
City Hall delivers revitalized square in Campo Grande
In Campo Grande, also in the West Zone, the City Hall completed the renovation work on Rosária Trotta Square. The area now features areas for seniors, children, and sports courts, with a completely redesigned layout to make it a more modern, welcoming, and functional public space.
The project was developed by the Municipal Urbanization Company (Rio-Urbe), affiliated with the Municipal Infrastructure Department, with a focus on enhancing coexistence, leisure, and the quality of life for residents and visitors. The total investment was R$1,6 million.
The square received renewed paving with interlocking blocks and concrete flooring, providing greater safety and accessibility. The space also gained new trees, gardens, and concrete benches, enhancing the landscaping and expanding shade and rest areas.
With a diverse audience in mind, spaces were created for different age groups: a Senior Citizens' Academy, equipped to promote the health and well-being of seniors; a safe and interactive playground for children's development; and a multi-sport court equipped for soccer, volleyball, and pickleball.
The new addition is the installation of ten container kiosks integrated into a new, modern and functional roof, which provides greater comfort and protection from the rain, transforming the square into the Rosária Trotta Gastronomic Hub. The project is similar to that of Beco da Cirrose in Irajá, where Rio-Urbe installed 16 containers for businesses, including bars, restaurants, and shops.
To encourage mobility, bicycle racks were installed, as well as modern and accessible restrooms, ensuring comfort and hygiene for all visitors.
