In the early hours of Monday (17), the Municipal Department of Transportation, through the newly created Emergency Executive Committee for the readjustment of the city's bus lines, carried out a major operation in the companies' garages, focusing on lines that had been complained about due to inoperability and circulation with a reduced fleet, irregularities that worsened during the pandemic. The action resulted in the resumption of operations on 33 regular lines.

In total, 11 teams with around 80 agents and 17 vehicles, with the support of the Municipal Guard, inspected 10 garages and gathered data for an inventory of the status of vehicles that are out of operation, gathered information about the composition of the teams that should be active, and the lines complained about through the direct channel between the population and the department, SMTR com VOCÊ. In addition, the inspectors analyzed the documentation, inspection, safety items, compliance with health protocols and the state of conservation of the buses. The garages inspected were: Pégaso/Palmares, Jabour, Barra, Redentor/Futuro, Transurb, Real, Braso Lisboa, Nossa Senhora de Lourdes, Pavunense and Vila Real. According to the coordinator of the Executive Committee, Undersecretary Allan Borges, the surveys carried out in the garages are of great importance, since the inventory of existing dysfunctions will allow the granting authority to intervene in the direction of improving public bus transport in the city.

– Operations like this are extremely important and will continue on our schedule. The main objective is to promote improvements in the system, as the people of Rio demand, need and deserve.

The Municipal Secretary of Transportation, Paulo Jobim, acknowledges that the pandemic has seriously affected the public transportation sector, not only in the city of Rio, but also in other major capitals, and is monitoring the progress of the federal government's bill that provides support to the sector in states and municipalities. If approved, the City of Rio, the granting authority, will preferentially use the criterion of contractual performance of operators and consortia to implement the established measures, especially regarding the regular operation of the lines.
