City Hall inaugurates Municipal Rehabilitation Center in Irajá, in the North Zone.

The Rio de Janeiro City Hall inaugurated the Irajá Municipal Rehabilitation Center in the North Zone this Saturday (March 21st). The new unit expands the availability of specialized treatments in the network, focusing on both physical rehabilitation and care for people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

"We are inaugurating here another important space for the City Hall, for a cause that has grown immensely and for which we are always in demand. We will standardize our services, standardize the regulations, and ensure that families and mothers with atypical children have a clear path, a trail within the Rio de Janeiro City Hall. That they are served in education, in health, wherever necessary, with respect and dignity," stated the mayor.

Located at Rua Hanibal Porto, 450, the facility houses a Motor Rehabilitation Center for adults, offering physiotherapy services to patients with physical and motor disabilities. Initially, the facility will have an average capacity of 800 monthly appointments, with prospects for gradually expanding services according to demand.

The facility will also house the Center for Stimulating Development in Autism Spectrum Disorder (CEDTEA), the eighth in the municipal health network. It serves children and adolescents from zero to 18 years old with suspected or confirmed diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), offering rehabilitation services. The goal is to promote individualized therapeutic care through multidisciplinary follow-up, according to the needs of each patient.

According to Rio's Secretary of Health, Daniel Soranz, this inauguration is fundamental for the child's development, at a time when they need to increasingly develop their ability to interact with society.

"Here we'll have a special care room, a stimulation room, music therapists, occupational therapy. It's multidisciplinary care," said Soranz.

Soranz also highlighted the rehabilitation center, which is fundamental for structuring care for accident victims or those with other health problems requiring physiotherapy.

CEDTEA will have a team of 12 professionals, including a neuropsychiatrist, two psychologists, two educators, two physiotherapists, two speech therapists, a nutritionist, a music therapist, and a psychomotor therapist.

Among the services offered, the following stand out: multidisciplinary assessment for suspected autism, with 12 initial consultations per week and 72 follow-up appointments, totaling approximately 84 weekly and 336 monthly appointments; and intellectual rehabilitation in pediatrics, which will include 21 initial consultations per week and 126 follow-up appointments, totaling 147 appointments per week and 588 per month.

In addition, group activities will be held for residents of Irajá, Madureira, Vila da Penha, Cascadura, Guadalupe, Osvaldo Cruz, Campinho, Vila Kosmos, Honório Gurgel, Rocha Miranda, Vaz Lobo, and Cavalcanti. Ten follow-up appointments will also be conducted daily.

CEDTEA is dedicated to the comprehensive care of children with ASD, focusing on assessment, diagnosis, and rehabilitation. The service offers multidisciplinary support, including assessment for suspected autism, diagnostic support, and intellectual rehabilitation, with therapeutic interventions aimed at the development, autonomy, and quality of life of patients and their families.

To access the services of the Municipal Rehabilitation Center, the user must be evaluated at a family clinic or municipal health center and referred through the Regulation System (SISREG). Children suspected of having ASD will undergo diagnostic tests recommended for their condition at the Primary Care unit and, if they are referred for specialized services, will be entered into SISREG.
