The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through the Subsecretariat of Health Surveillance, a department linked to the Municipal Health Department (SMS), closed down a concert venue in the West Zone late on Saturday night (19/09). In a joint action with the Municipal Secretariat of Public Order (Seop), the Municipal Guard and support from the Military Police, the teams went to the establishment at Rua das Amoreiras, 713, in Cosmos, which was fined for lack of a permit and health license. The action took place after a complaint that there would be an event with live music and crowding at the location.

From Friday night (18/09) until the early hours of Sunday (20/09), the Health Surveillance Department carried out 28 inspections in bars, restaurants, kiosks on the waterfront, among other establishments. The teams issued eight infractions, completely closing four locations, three due to overcrowding and one due to lack of a permit and health license.

In addition to Cosmos, inspectors visited the following neighborhoods: Barra da Tijuca, Leblon, Botafogo and Tijuca. Other irregularities found included a lack of hygiene and supplies for cleaning hands and products unfit for consumption.

Since the start of Operation Covid-19 on March 19, the agency has carried out 10.080 inspections and issued 4.599 fines, closing 274 establishments. The most frequently fined offense (1.031) is lack of hygiene, including the absence of liquid soap and paper towel dispensers. In second place is operating in violation of Rio Decree 47.282 (866), followed by crowding (555).
