City Hall takes the 'Responsible Community' program to the Jacarezinho Complex

The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through the Subprefecture of Large Complexes and Comlurb, launched the Responsible Community program in the Jacarezinho Complex, in Rio's North Zone. The integrated action to reinforce regular cleaning, already carried out daily in the communities, continues until Friday (September 05th), focusing on the most critical areas of irregular waste disposal in the region.

According to the deputy mayor of Grandes Complexos, Marlí Peçanha, the initiative aims to improve living conditions in the region.

– These are actions that promote health, provide more organized environments and well-being -, he explains.

In total, 60 street cleaners and crews from the Subprefecture of Grandes Complexos are mobilized to carry out various services, including street sweeping, weeding, grass cutting, tree pruning, waste removal with front-end loaders, dump trucks, and compactors, as well as hydraulically cleaning streets with recycled water. The operation began on Viúva Cláudio Street and continued throughout the community's internal streets. Tomorrow, the activities will begin on Rio Street, at the corner of Viúva Cláudio Street, and will extend to other areas of Jacarezinho.

To reinforce the operation, five compactor, satellite, water tanker and dump trucks, a tractor and a pump van, as well as equipment such as a loader, brush cutters and blowers, are being used.

"Our communities are already well-served, with a daily routine, but we needed this extra attention to detail to make them even cleaner and with waste organized. Responsible Community is implemented in two phases. In the first, we inspect the area, looking for areas that still need improvement. In the second phase, operational teams return to the site to perform the necessary services identified during the inspection," highlights Jorge Arraes, president of Comlurb.

The action was planned in conjunction with the Jacarezinho Local Executive Management (GEL) and local community leaders. In July and August of this year, the Subprefecture of Large Complexes and Comlurb carried out similar operations in the Lins and Manguinhos complexes, focusing on the Mandela 1/Embratel, Mandela 2, and Mandela 3/Varginha communities.
