Photo: Disclosure/City Hall The Rio City Hall, through the Subprefecture of Large Complexes, promoted this Wednesday (16/04) a major joint action in the Mandela 1 community, in the Manguinhos Complex, North Zone of the city. The initiative brought together different agencies and departments to offer services such as vaccination, school enrollment referrals, guidance on preventing domestic risks, in addition to urban conservation actions.
– This work makes a difference in people’s lives. We are bringing improvements to more vulnerable areas to facilitate access to services and offer equal opportunities – said the deputy mayor of Grandes Complexos, Marlí Peçanha.
The task force also includes actions already completed or in progress, such as pothole-filling operations, repairing and painting speed bumps, reinforcing road signs, installing lamp posts, replacing light bulbs, pruning trees, maintaining squares and sports courts, and inspecting rivers and canals for dredging. The services are carried out by the Conservation Department, Rioluz, Comlurb, CET-Rio and Fundação Rio-Águas.
The Municipal Health Department offered vaccinations against influenza, measles, mumps and rubella, as well as guidance on oral health and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). It also warned about the correct disposal of garbage to prevent the spread of diseases and distributed condoms.
Resident of the Mandela 1 community, Jacinei Ribeiro, 52, took the opportunity to update her vaccination card.
– This type of action saves lives, because a poorly treated flu, for example, can compromise health, leading to other more serious problems. I got the vaccine with my husband and now we are immune and protected – said Jacinei Ribeiro.
Education professionals helped residents enroll in elementary and secondary school classes, the Youth and Adult Education Program (PEJA) and daycare centers. Civil Defense provided guidance on risk prevention and explained how to request technical inspections by calling 199.
Daniela Carvalho, from Mandela 2, said she will change her habits at home after receiving the guidance.
– I have several power strips plugged into a single outlet. Now I know the risk this represents – she commented.
CET-Rio distributed educational material about traffic and carried out fun activities with children, such as the “Traffic Light Game”, to teach, in a fun way, respect for the law and safe crossing at pedestrian crossings.
