- City Hall sets up a special monitoring, traffic, urban planning and cleaning scheme for singer Shakira's concert
There will be traffic restrictions around the Nilton Santos Stadium - Archive/City of Rio The Rio City Hall has set up a special monitoring, traffic, urban planning and cleaning scheme for the concert by singer Shakira, next Tuesday (11/2), at the Nilton Santos Stadium, in the city's North Zone. Vehicle circulation in the area surrounding the Engenhão will be restricted, with road closures, detours and parking bans. The recommendation is to use public transport, especially the train, to get to and from the area.
COR-Rio will use drones and 43 cameras to monitor the stadium's surroundings
The Rio City Hall Operations and Resilience Center (COR-Rio) will have a special bench with 15 operators exclusively dedicated to monitoring the show at Engenhão. Inside the Situation Room, there will be reinforcements from representatives of CET-Rio, the Municipal Guard (GM-Rio), the Public Order Secretariat (Seop), the Parking and Towing Inspection Coordination (CFER), as well as concessionaires SuperVia and MetrôRio.
The video wall will also have a special layout for observation and blocking points. In total, 43 cameras positioned on the streets surrounding the stadium and installed on nearby streets will be used in the operation. COR-Rio will also use two drones to monitor the region.
Rio de Janeiro City Hall is asking people to use public transportation. It is worth remembering that the subway and trains will operate with special schedules on the day of the event.
Circulation of residents' vehicles in the Engenhão area will only be permitted upon presentation of proof of residence
The entire area surrounding the Nilton Santos stadium will have restricted traffic. Vehicles belonging to residents will only be allowed to move if they present proof of residence. However, they will not be allowed to park on roads marked with a parking ban. In addition to the parking bans already in place in the area, parking will be restricted on several other roads around the stadium.
To ensure proper traffic flow, only regular city buses will be allowed to use the roads near the stadium. Chartered buses will be prohibited. Drivers must follow all signs to ensure their vehicles are not taken to public depots.
It is important to highlight that the main roads in the region are monitored by video surveillance, which means that, in addition to the agents working directly in the field, other teams at the Operations and Resilience Center (COR-Rio) will monitor traffic violations using cameras, such as parking and boarding/disembarking in prohibited areas. Specific signage has already been installed, indicating the prohibitions in force and the existence of this type of monitoring.
The main recommendation for people attending the event is to use the train to get around, as it is a high-capacity form of transport and is not directly impacted by road closures.
The traffic operation will involve 155 people, including CET-Rio teams, traffic agents and traffic support staff, who will work to maintain traffic flow, prevent illegal parking, organize intersections, guide pedestrians and drivers, and also set up roadblocks throughout the event. In addition, 10 operational vehicles and 20 motorcycles will support the traffic plan. 18 variable message panels will be installed with information about roadblocks and alternative routes for drivers.
Pedestrians must cross at the locations indicated by signs or as instructed by traffic officers. Guidance for the public, pedestrians and drivers will be reinforced with the installation of crosswalks in areas where traffic is being blocked, as well as variable message panels with information about road closure times and alternative routes.
CET-Rio technicians at COR-Rio will monitor traffic movement in the region using cameras so that, if necessary, adjustments can be made to the traffic light schedule to ensure good traffic conditions.
