Photo: Press Release/Seop The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through a joint action of the South Zone Subprefecture and the Municipal Secretariat of Public Order (Seop), carried out an urban order operation on Rua Dias Ferreira, in Leblon, last night and early this Wednesday morning (June 10). The action resulted in fines totaling R$ 31.544,15 being levied against bars and restaurants for illegally occupying sidewalks.
In total, 11 establishments were inspected, resulting in 13 citations for using tables and chairs without authorization or in violation of regulations, and for storing materials in public areas. In addition to the fines, those responsible were required to immediately remove the irregular equipment, freeing the sidewalk for pedestrian traffic.
According to the sub-mayor of the South Zone, Pedro Angelito, the action aimed to curb the improper occupation of sidewalks, a practice that compromises accessibility and people's right to come and go.
"We are consolidating a culture of order in the region, where everyone does their part to keep the city organized. Economic activity is important, but it must coexist with the population's right to come and go freely. Our goal is to guarantee accessible and safe sidewalks for everyone. This work will continue to be carried out permanently," stated the deputy mayor.
The South Zone Subprefecture emphasizes that actions to regulate and clear public sidewalks are being intensified in the region, focusing on urban organization and proper coexistence between economic activity and the use of public space.
