The City of Rio, through Procon Carioca, warns consumers about some necessary precautions when buying gifts for children.

  • If you are giving a toy to a child, make sure it is suitable for the age group. This information should be on the packaging.
  • Only buy toys with the Inmetro seal.
  • The Inmetro seal guarantees, for example, that the product has passed chemical assessments (metals harmful to health); impact (sharp edges) and flammability (risk of combustion in contact with fire)
  • Counterfeit products or products manufactured in clandestine industries may not be safe, especially with regard to the toxicity of the material used in their manufacture.
  • When there is duplication of prices, the lowest price applies.
  • Defective product exchanges are not immediate. The store has 30 days to repair the product. If this period is exceeded or if the product is still defective even after the repair, then you can exchange it for a new product or request a refund.
  • If you buy online, be wary of incredible offers, especially if the store is unknown, as well as suppliers that only offer bank slips as a form of payment.
  • When purchasing on the website, check if it has the store's CNPJ, physical address and other information necessary for its location and contact. Check if there is a padlock or key in the top corner of the screen.
  • Save all online purchase data, such as the website name, products ordered, amount paid, payment method and purchase or order protocol number, if applicable.
  • For purchases made outside the physical store (online, by telephone or catalog), the consumer has 7 days to cancel the purchase, from the date of receipt of the product, and is entitled to a refund.
