World Consumer Rights Day is celebrated this Monday (15/03) and, to mark the date, Procon Carioca will hold the Virtual Debt Renegotiation Campaign, in partnership with the Brazilian Association of Procons and the Brazilian Federation of Banks. Interested parties will have until the 31st of this month to attempt agreements exclusively online, on the conflict resolution platform.

The goal of the campaign is to help those who need to rebalance their household budget and encourage the population to keep their names off credit protection lists. To achieve this, benefits will be offered, such as favorable conditions for paying debts, adjusting the value of installments, reducing interest and fines, and even making it easier to settle debts with financial institutions.

According to the Procons Association, many consumers stop negotiating debts at service units because they feel embarrassed by the situation. The restrictions on movement due to the pandemic have reinforced the need to offer a service via the internet.

– The drop in income in 2020 impacted household budgets and led to the postponement of bill payments. Our main objective is to prevent these families from having their names blacklisted – says Átila Nunes, president of Procon Carioca.

After receiving the online renegotiation request, the financial institution will have 10 days to present a proposal or response to the consumer.
