Comlurb celebrates the milestone of over a thousand tree management operations carried out in just two months on the city's main roads through the Green Corridors program, which takes place on weekends. The program, launched on June 20th, has performed 1.055 tree prunings and 37 tree removals, totaling 1.092 management operations. The program's objective is to complete all necessary services in a single day or weekend in important and extensive areas of the city where teams have difficulty operating during weekdays due to high traffic flow and to avoid disrupting urban mobility.
The program has already been implemented on, among other places, Epitácio Pessoa Avenue, in Lagoa, Mayor Dulcídio Cardoso, in Barra da Tijuca, Genaro de Carvalho, in Recreio dos Bandeirantes, in addition to the Engenheiro Fernando Mac Dowell Highway, formerly the Lagoa-Barra Highway, and streets. Viscount of Pirajá, in Ipanema, Count of Bonfim, in Tijuca, Magalhães Couto, in Méier, and Conde de Baependi, in Laranjeiras, and Praça Milton Campos, in Leblon.
The chosen location must meet three criteria: the number of pending requests made via the 1746 hotline, an analysis of the trees' phytosanitary condition, and any conflict with urban infrastructure (signs, building facades, signage, etc.). During this period, the program thus resolved 101 pending requests made via the 1746 hotline.
– The choice of location involves operational and technical criteria. The team surveys these locations, analyzes the number of requests registered by citizens at the 1746 hotline. In addition, they check the overall health of the tree, whether it is affected by any pests, and the integrity of its structures, from the crown to the roots, to determine the risks related to its decline. In other words, we are dealing with the quality of the city's tree cover – explains the Director of Urban Services, Ronaldo Teixeira.
The director emphasizes that the new program, although it brings together a larger number of equipment, vehicles, and personnel, does not impact the city's routine management. The operations involve, on average, 50 sanitation workers, using bucket trucks, garbage trucks, and utility vehicles for personnel transport. The new program has ensured a reduction in risks and improvements in road safety.
