Solidarity cinema project takes young people from communities to watch the film 'I'm Still Here'

Photo: Disclosure/JUVrio In order to promote culture and entertainment for low-income youth, the second edition of the VillageMall solidarity project was held on Wednesday (12/02), in partnership with the Secretariat for Youth in Rio de Janeiro (JUVrio). In total, 53 residents of Mangueira, Cosmos, Barreira do Vasco and São Carlos, aged between 15 and 29, had the opportunity to watch the first Brazilian feature film to be awarded an Oscar in the Best International Film category, the film 'I'm Still Here'.
Eduarda Motta dos Santos, 21, has a degree in audiovisual from JUVRio and learned about the history of cinema, visual language and editing techniques. She spoke about her experience and the need to value national art.
– I really wanted to work behind the camera, editing or even operating this equipment. I loved seeing the result of this in the film, which exceeded my expectations. Fernanda Torres’ performance made me feel a little of the despair, pain and agony of that family -, highlighted the young resident of Barreira do Vasco.
Cinema Solidário has been taking place since 2023 and, until the end of this year, nine more meetings are scheduled. Tickets, snacks and transportation are provided by the shopping mall. To participate, you must be a student of the courses offered by the Secretaria da Juventude Carioca, a partner of the project in 2025.
