The BRT Connection network has a new line linking the Olympic Center to Anil.

Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere oversaw another milestone in the expansion of the Conexão BRT network this Saturday (July 25th): the start of operations for line 54 (Centro Olímpico x Anil), the fourth line in circulation. The new service expands transportation options in Barra da Tijuca and Jacarepaguá, reinforces integration with the BRT system, and offers a new commuting option for the population. Also present were the Municipal Secretary of Transportation, Jorge Arraes, and the CEO of MOBI-Rio, Claudia Secin.

 

Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere highlighted the start of operations for line 54 as a new step among many being taken to create a more efficient transportation system for the city.

 

 – We are reaching 815 buses in the MOBI-Rio system alone, including articulated and regular buses. There are 387 new buses in the regular bus system. We are moving forward with the commitment we made to the population to bring about the same transformation with bus lines that we did with the BRT. And the BRT Connection is exactly that. These are integration lines in areas of the city that have enormous demand to access the BRT. The population needs safe, predictable transportation, with new, quality buses, to access the BRT and reach their final destination – said the mayor.

 

The new line will connect the Olympic Center to Anil, passing through Riocentro, Projac, Curicica, Taquara, Pechincha, Freguesia, and ParkJacarepaguá. The service will operate daily from 4:00 AM to 11:00 PM, with eight-minute intervals on weekdays. This new service establishes the first direct connection between the neighborhoods of Freguesia, Curicica, and Taquara and the BRT system, eliminating the need for transfers. The line also connects both sides of the Yellow Line, with its final stop in Anil.

The service, operated by Mobi-Rio, will feature a fleet of 25 brand-new buses, offering greater comfort, accessibility, and reliability to passengers.
Like the other BRT Connection lines, the vehicles have an onboard turnstile, allowing boarding directly at conventional bus stops along the route. Payment will be made through Jaé, via Pix or Riocard (only for beneficiaries of the Intermunicipal Single Ticket).

 

The municipal Secretary of Transportation, Jorge Arraes, highlighted the life-changing impact the new line will have on residents and workers in Jacarepaguá.

 

– Jacarepaguá is a densely populated neighborhood. This line will serve a lot of people, connecting the BRT to the conventional bus system. It's another important step to be able to serve a region that already had pent-up demand in Jacarepaguá – stated Arraes.

 

Street vendor Antonia Eloneide, 38, who normally used two buses to travel from her home on Rua Rodrigues Caldas to her workplace on Rua Nelson Cardoso in Taquara, will now make the journey in a single trip.

 

"This bus will pass very close to my house. Before, it took me half an hour to get to work. Now, it will take me, at most, 15 minutes. I used to take two buses. Now, I'll only take one," she said.

 

About the BRT Connection
The BRT Connection is a complementary service operated by Mobi-Rio, with boarding at conventional bus stops using vehicles equipped with onboard turnstiles. This initiative expands the reach of the BRT system, connecting neighborhoods and regions not directly served by the dedicated bus lanes and facilitating passenger integration into the municipal public transportation network.

Currently, the service has four lines:
28 – Terminal Curral Falso x Terminal Pingo D'Água (via Sepetiba);
54 – Olympic Center x Anil (new line);
67 – Campo Grande x Deodoro Terminal;
68 – Bangu x Deodoro Terminal.

Opening hours: every day, from 4am to 23pm.
Break time: 8 minutes on weekdays.

Tribute on Road Worker's Day

The presentation of the new line marked Bus Driver's Day, celebrated this Saturday (July 25th). During the ceremony, one hundred drivers were honored for their good performance in the criteria of attendance, punctuality, and zero damage – 15 of whom symbolically received a medal and armband from the mayor. The CEO of MOBI-Rio, Claudia Secin, praised the good service provided by the professionals:

 

– I would like to talk about the importance of starting the operation of this line today, on Bus Driver's Day. I want to thank the 2.054 drivers of MOBI-Rio, and the 4.100 employees that the company has today, who are responsible for the growth we have had since 2022, when the company was created – said Claudia Secin.

 

Among the professionals honored, Simone Macedo, who has been with MOBI-Rio since the company's inception and works at Unit 1, was chosen as the Top Driver for her excellent operational performance. The selection considered the last three months, a period in which she recorded zero damage, zero absences, zero warnings, zero delays, and zero suspensions.
