Work resumes on Estrada do Tingui, in Campo Grande

This Saturday (August 09th), Rio de Janeiro City Hall resumed another phase of the Campo Grande Mobility Plan, in the city's West Zone. The project, through the Municipal Infrastructure Department, involves the construction of a new section of Estrada do Tingui, featuring a 08-meter cycle path that will connect directly to Avenida Brasil, heading towards the city center. This road connection provides a strategic alternative for accessing the city's main expressway for those who live and travel in the area. Investments total R$1.500 million.

 

– From the beginning of Mayor Eduardo Paes' administration, it was decided that the largest investments in mobility in the city would be in Campo Grande, as it was an important demand of the neighborhood's residents -, stated the acting mayor, Eduardo Cavaliere, highlighting improvements planned and already implemented by the Plan, such as the duplication of Estrada do Lameirão and Estrada Rio-São Paulo, the Anel Viário and the tunnel works in Floresta da Posse.

 

The project will significantly shorten the daily commute for Campo Grande residents to Avenida Brasil, improving local traffic flow and facilitating integration with other areas of the city.

 

Cavaliere praises the benefits for people living in the Estrada do Tingui area, such as the reduction in travel time for Campo Grande residents on the neighborhood's own streets:

 

"These projects also serve to give Campo Grande residents more time to spend with their families. All residents in this area will have a new alternative to Avenida Brasil. The public is eagerly awaiting the completion of these projects."

 

The work had to be resumed because the company that won the bid was unable to complete the work on Estrada do Tingui, resulting in the contract being terminated. A new bid was required for the City to resume the work. Completion is expected by the first half of 2026.

In addition to the implementation of the new section, the project includes revitalization of asphalt and sidewalks between Estrada Carvalho Ramos and Rua Asa Branca, improvements to the drainage system mitigating the risk of flooding.

 

The municipal secretary of Infrastructure, Wanderson Santos, highlighted that the project is another alternative to relieve traffic in Campo Grande and to create a direct connection to Avenida Brasil.

 

– The City Hall will do all the paving, sidewalks, lighting and cycle lanes, too, to make this road fully urbanized and generate this incredible benefit for the population here in Campo Grande -, explains the secretary.

With a total length of 1,6 meters and an area of 20 square meters, the works aim to improve road circulation, enhance urban space and expand travel options in the Campo Grande region up to Avenida Brasil.

 

"Improvements will come, especially in public transportation and in the speed and agility of getting to Avenida Brasil. It will be positive across the board," celebrates shoe designer Carla Boaventura, a 23-year resident of Conjunto Henriqueta in Campo Grande.

 

Beside her, retiree Daura Dantas, who has lived in Henriqueta for 16 years, was also optimistic about the resumption of construction:

 

"You can't even imagine how many benefits we'll get here. Our properties will appreciate in value too."

Mobility Plan will make Campo Grande move

The Campo Grande Mobility Plan encompasses a series of structural interventions with a total investment of nearly R$1 billion, financed by the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES). The initiative has already delivered important projects, such as the underpass on Cesário de Melo Avenue and the redevelopment of Artur Rios Street. Progress is underway on roads such as Cesário de Melo, which is undergoing road improvements; Sete Riachos Road, which will connect directly to Avenida Brasil; and Lameirão Road, Monteiro Road, Largo da Maçonaria Road, and the construction of Campo Grande's first tunnel, under Morro Luís Bom. In total, the plan will benefit more than 300 people, promoting smoother traffic flow, road safety, and urban development in the West Zone.
