The Municipal Health Department (SMS) is expanding, starting this Wednesday (16), the updated vaccination against the LP.8.1 strain of covid-19 to health workers and people with comorbidities, such as diabetes mellitus, Down syndrome and chronic renal and neurological diseases (see all conditions below).

For seniors over 60 years of age, who were already being vaccinated in the previous phase, the vaccine remains available, as well as for pregnant and postpartum women, immunocompromised individuals, and patients with permanent disabilities.

The vaccine is safe and the only way to prevent and reduce the risk of hospitalization and death from the disease. To get vaccinated, you need to go to a health unit with an identity document and, if available, your vaccination card.

People with comorbidities are also included.

The comorbidities covered by the updated COVID-19 vaccination are: severe chronic lung diseases, resistant or advanced hypertension, heart failure, different types of heart disease (ischemic, valvular, congenital in adults, cardiomyopathies and pericardial diseases), aortic and great vessel diseases, cardiac arrhythmias, carriers of valve prostheses and implanted cardiac devices, muscular dystrophies, hemoglobinopathies and severe splenic dysfunctions, morbid obesity, Down syndrome and other trisomies, and chronic liver disease. The complete eligibility criteria follow the technical classification of the Ministry of Health.

The adult COVID-19 vaccine LP.8.1 is available at all 242 Primary Care units (family clinics and municipal health centers) in the city and at the Super Centro Carioca de Vacinação units in Botafogo (open every day from 8 am to 22 pm), in the West Zone (at ParkShoppingCampoGrande, following the shopping mall's opening hours) and in the North Zone (Shopping Nova América).

To find the nearest Primary Care unit, simply access the Where to Get Care portal: prefecture.rio/ondeseratendido.
