The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through RioLuz, in partnership with the Municipal Secretariat of Culture, is delivering to the city, starting today, a new scenic lighting system for the Lapa Arches during Rio Art Week. The structure is permanent and will allow one of the city's main landmarks to take on different colors throughout the year, coinciding with events, cultural demonstrations, awareness campaigns, and commemorative dates.

The new system features 50 projectors with RGBW technology and 75 meters of cabling. The equipment is remotely controlled and allows for the creation of different lighting scenarios, expanding the possibilities for using the Arcos da Lapa and enhancing the monument's architecture even at night.

"Now we have a large light screen in the heart of the city, which the City Hall can use to communicate actions, events, and cultural initiatives. It's a new possibility to occupy public space with culture and make light a tool for communication, expression, and appreciation of our city," says the Municipal Secretary of Culture, Lucas Padilha.

The delivery is part of a series of actions by RioLuz that combine lighting, art, and the enhancement of historical heritage. During Rio Art Week, other monuments will also receive RGBW lighting technology, including the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Church of Our Lady of Penha, the Church of Saint George in Quintino, and the Church of Our Lady of the Presentation in Irajá.

In the city center, the area that will host the Art Week, the Carmo Church of the Old Cathedral, the Church of Santa Rita de Cássia, and the Santo Antônio Convent received new decorative lighting. Four decorative light fixtures, 31 projectors, 117 meters of wiring and cables, and three fiber optic poles were installed. The interventions highlight the architectural details of the monuments and expand the illuminated historical circuit of the region.

"It's a legacy that will last for Rio. We are combining technology, culture, and heritage in a system that will allow the Arcos da Lapa to participate in different moments of the city throughout the year," says the president of RioLuz, Rodolpho Maldonado.

The historic circuit also received investments from the Luz Maravilha Program. Senado, Lavradio, and Carioca streets gained 87 LED streetlights, 35 decorative streetlights, and 12 floodlights. Additionally, 16 colonial cast-iron lampposts were restored, and 22 new fiberglass lampposts were installed.

Light that enhances the heritage.

In addition to highlighting the architecture of the Lapa Arches, the new lighting reinforces the monument's presence in the night landscape and contributes to the enhancement of one of Rio's most traditional cultural and tourist areas. With the permanent structure, the Arches can take on new configurations throughout the year and reflect different moments in the city's calendar.
