- Rio has more than 400 flu vaccination sites this week.
Immunization will be available for everyone from six months of age - Edu Kapps / SMS The Municipal Health Department (SMS) is making available, starting this Monday (May 25th), more than 200 extra vaccination points against influenza in locations with high pedestrian traffic. Including primary care units, such as family clinics and municipal health centers, there will be more than 400 vaccination sites spread throughout the municipality. The strategy aims to expand access to influenza immunization for the population during the final period of the campaign, which runs until next Sunday (May 31st).
The flu vaccine is available to everyone from 6 months of age, but the call is especially directed to priority groups: children from 6 months to under 6 years of age, the elderly, and pregnant women. These groups are more susceptible to complications from the disease, especially in the autumn and winter months, and vaccination is the main way to prevent severe cases and deaths caused by the virus. The city of Rio has already administered more than 1 million doses of the vaccine in 2026, but among the priority groups, only one in three people have been vaccinated.
– Everyone aged 6 months or older should go to one of the vaccination centers to update their immunization, especially children, pregnant women, and the elderly, who are the groups most vulnerable to the effects of the disease. This is an opportunity to protect yourself. We cannot underestimate the flu, which is the main disease on our epidemiological calendar, nor can we allow it to cause hospitalizations and deaths that are preventable by vaccination – warns the municipal health secretary, Rodrigo Prado.
The vaccine will also be available at the 243 vaccination sites in the municipal health network, including family clinics and municipal health centers, and the Super Centro Carioca de Vacinação, in the Botafogo units (open Sunday to Sunday, from 8 am to 22 pm), the West Zone (at ParkShoppingCampoGrande) and the North Zone (at Shopping Nova América). The latter two operate Sunday to Sunday, according to the shopping center's hours.
The list of additional vaccination sites will be available starting this Monday. on the website of the Municipal Health Department.
