RioLuz allocated more than R$2,4 million to protect the city's public lighting system between January and August of this year. The goal is to minimize losses caused by theft and vandalism, which compromise both service efficiency and public safety.

Among the measures implemented are the replacement of iron manhole covers with concrete models, the installation of cameras at strategic points, the replacement of copper cables with aluminum, and the adoption of grated enclosures to protect light fixtures. To date, 270 manhole covers have been replaced with concrete, 650 monitoring devices have been installed in different regions of the city, and 103 km of aluminum cables have been replaced.

On the Red Line alone, one of the city's main road corridors, 269 thefts were recorded this year alone, highlighting the need for constant investment in protection solutions.

"With these initiatives, RioLuz reinforces its commitment to modernizing and preserving its public lighting infrastructure. Our goal is to ensure greater safety, quality, and reliability for the people of Rio, reducing the impact of theft and ensuring an increasingly efficient service," emphasizes Rafael Thompson, president of RioLuz.
